Axial Seamount Eruption ?

Beginning Thursday, April 23 — the day after the workshop ended — the new sensors recorded 8,000 small earthquakes in a 24-hour period. The volcano’s caldera, which had been swelling rapidly from an influx of magma, collapsed like a deflated balloon.

 

“All the alarm bells were going off,” said Oregon State University volcanologist Bill Chadwick, who along with colleague Scott Nooner predicted last year that the volcano would erupt in 2015. “It was very exciting

Your guess is as good as any. It's certainly overdue.

Southern Calif has had a few recently and that entire area is living on borrowed time according to the scientific tinfoil club. So who knows. Throw some money on it in Vegas. Might have picked a winner.

Where the Axial Seamount is, is on the spreading center and those boundaries are not known for large earthquakes. Whether this new volcanic activity is adding pressure the Juan de Fuca plate at the Cascadia Subduction Zone is anyone's guess.

The scientists say that the eruption caused almost 8000 miniscule earthquakes on April the 24th. Axial Seamount presents a wonderful opportunity to the scientists to study how magma chambers work.
