Yes. When blocking returns in late January and beyond, once again potential for cold/snow increases in the PNW, and for the country as a whole.5 points

I don't know what to do with myself. I've been going back and forth from walking around outside, to pacing in front of the window, to looking at the radar.4 points

Pouring snow right now! Heaviest I've seen since 2008. 31.7 degrees and a NE wind 5-15 mph. Rapidly piling up out there!4 points

The Nanaimo-Parksville area got a nice dusting of "strait-effect" snow today. It was so low level that almost nothing showed up on the radar, yet many areas ended up with several inches of snow. All the while it was dry/windy a short distance north/south of the snow zone. That area has some nice geographic features that help in getting snow going into these events. As Arctic air crosses the Strait of Georgia it picks up moisture, but when it hits the island it dams up against the Vancouver Island range, winds slow and snow falls; because it's mostly immune to the outflow the snow sticks around on the trees for longer too. My brother took a picture of the start of the event: http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p286/jemeric/7197203380040816231-account_id1_zps4daxlepj.jpg Later in the day a little to the north of where that was taken it made for a great sunset scene; some of the low cloud still visible over the strait: http://webcam.beachacresresort.com/webcam/current.jpg4 points

Pretty hilarious how the ONE event this winter they under-hyped (until the very last minute), turns out to be an out-of-this-world over performer.3 points

This is one for the books. Over 5" now.3 points

I think this is THE heaviest snow I've ever seen in the metro area. I can't remember anything in my lifetime that matched this.3 points

Watching the news...hearing reporters and ODOT people saying that people are crazy for being out on the roads. They can't believe it!!! Makes me really mad though since there are a lot of people that don't have a choice but to commute and/or get around town so they can go home or go to work. Pretty ignorant.3 points

It is snowglobing here. I haven't even been on until now. Just out admiring it. Some of the heaviest snow I have seen in a very long time and fast accumulation. Huge flakes. Already about an inch on the ground.3 points

Pretty much all snow here and lots of precip coming in. Is this real life?3 points

I'm back! Awesome to see the models holding or even increasing snow totals for tonight. Below freezing 925's are slowly creeping their way through the gorge as the PDX-DLS gradient is now up to -6.8mb. Haven't been home most of the day but came home to light snow showers and they continue up here currently. Just dropped below 32º so it's all sticking snow from this point forward. Going to be a fun night and looking forward to my last snow storm here in Portland before heading to Bozeman on Saturday!3 points

Man, it felt so good using my snowblower again and clearing out the driveway, sidewalk and heck, I even cleared out my neighbors sidewalks also. Tbh..... , I sometimes over do it with clearing out the area (I really enjoy using my snowblower machine..it rocks). My wife tells me, you might as well, clear out the street too. :lol:3 points

And that is if the low tracks right. Still some if's but it appears most models are coming together. Nothing more fun than watching rain turn to snow and knowing cold air is coming in with the precip and then turning off cold enough to not change back to rain. It to me is the best possible scenario for me, the most fun to watch.3 points

Had a meeting all morning, to my delight this was my view on the way out! Half dollar flakes falling straight down and sticking to everything. Drifting shouldn't be an issue unless the snow dries out this afternoon. For PDX metro this is in the top 2 winters of the century so far. Haven't had a major blast (at least not yet) but it's been consistently cold for 6 weeks, and we had several smaller events before tonight's ridiculousness. I made a post during November talking about how that torch seemed like nothing more than continuation of the 2014-2016 torch era. I'm glad I was wrong.2 points

This really is turning into a dream setup for PDX metro. This will go down alongside 2004, 2008 and 2014.2 points

This is incredible. I haven't seen it snow this hard since my time in Truckee, CA. Has to be at least 2-3" per hour rate right now. 29º with 2" of new snow currently.2 points

Memba' when we used to get stoked when other PNW members got snow even if it wasn't IMBY? I Memba! So Seattle members please don't play debbie downer for PDX snow, you might get the favor returned later this winter or some other time.2 points

The difficulty in getting the cold air to combine with precip for sticking snow in the Puget Sound region has been brutal this winter. Again, DJF 1978-79 is probably the last time there's been such persistent cold with so little widespread accumulation.2 points

All models show some pretty good CAA in the basin. GFS shows temps around 30-32F there around 1PM today dropping to the 15F-18F range by 10 PM tonight. More or less all the models show a similar thing. NAM is more aggressive with the cold and has PDX down to freezing by around 7.2 points
