  1. At this point we just need to be thankful for the precipitation, whatever form it comes in. Hopefully we can all break this awful 2 years plus drought pattern in the plains… every little bit helps.
  2. So far sitting at 0.80” of very beneficial rainfall here in West Omaha (24 hour rainfall total). Hoping to get closer to that elusive 1” mark today for this system. Nice to see everything finally greening up around here thanks to some of the recent moisture. This soaking rain should really help accelerate things later in the week when it finally warms back up.
  3. A bit of a surprise snow this morning in Omaha… probably picked up an inch or two of snow here, nothing at all like what our friends out west are getting this morning however it’s nice to see at least some moisture here. Roads are mostly wet here, however the grass and rooftops are mostly covered.
  4. 0.11" since January 18th here... I am really hoping Nebraska and Iowa can get manage to get some appreciable moisture tomorrow/ tomorrow night.
  5. Any chance of challenging the all-time record high for February in Chicago? Still can’t believe we hit 80 here in Eastern Nebraska today, something I never imagined I would experience here this time of year. February heat wave for the Midwest.
  6. All-time February record high of 80 here today in Omaha… feels like May outside, historic warmth for February.
  7. Midwest weather in a nutshell, LOL! Looking like we go from 80 degree weather here today to cold, wind, and maybe some snow tomorrow night… let the weather roller coaster ride called Spring commence.
  8. Pulling it away from Eastern Nebraska again I see haha… our rain chances and forecasted amounts have dropped quite a bit over the last 24 hours. Sounds kinda familiar, however I am not going to complain about missing out on rain in early February.
  9. I helped one of my top customers/ distributors out with a booth at the Northeast Nebraska Ag Expo in Norfolk, NE yesterday and today. I made the decision to make the drive back to Omaha after the show ended, leaving Norfolk around 3:00pm when the heaviest snow was just ending there. The drive south down Highway 81 was terrifying at times, numerous white outs, and several vehicles stuck on the side of the road and a couple jack-knifed trucks (I even received a Public Emergency Alert for no travel advised on east to west Highway 91 due to that massive pileup, something I have never seen before). I don't know how I made it south to Columbus and ultimately east on Highway 30, and then to Highway 275 to get back to Omaha without any major issues, however it was one of the worst drives I have ever experienced (and I travel quite a bit across Nebraska and Iowa for work). A few co-workers of mine that were lagging behind a bit pulled off Highway 81 in Platte Center for 4-5 hours where they waited out the white out conditions for a bit. So glad we all made it home safely... even though a typical 2-hour drive turned out to be a 4+ hour white knuckle ride home.
  10. Just heard a “frost quake” in my neighborhood as the temp has settled to -15. Was a loud boom outside, sounded like someone hit the outside of our house… neighbors heard the same thing. Really weird phenomena.
  11. Much different here in East Central Nebraska… models were finally dead on with the 8-10” that fell here last night and today. Still getting some light snow now, or maybe it’s just blowing snow… I have no idea.
  12. Not sure why the NWS here in Omaha dragged their feet not issuing a Blizzard Warning for our CWA (conditions are warranting this too right now with less than 1/4 mile visibility at Eppley). The Nebraska State Patrol is now advising people to stay home due to whiteout conditions and treacherous road conditions, even in the city of Omaha. I-80 has been closed in a few spots in the city due to accidents and slide offs. A Blizzard Warning would have likely kept more businesses closed and people home... kind of ridiculous that they dropped the ball when DMX upgraded last night (especially as our snow amounts have increased and snow is still falling).
  13. It took a while for things to get going here last night, once the heavier bands moved in it started stacking up, and subsequently, blowing away quickly.
  14. Have to love waking up to this sight on the back deck! The wind is drifting most of this up since the back of our house faces south, however it is still an amazing sight to see (especially with our recent luck with winter storms).
  15. Looks like we picked up around 6” of snow overnight in Omaha and it’s still coming down at a good clip. Hard to get a decent measurement with the wind and it’s too cold to stay outside long haha. Should pick up another 2-4” today to get us close to double digits.
  16. I think we will see an upgrade early tomorrow morning... Honestly I get their reluctance as it really depends on when the snow shuts off here. If the snow holds on longer until the afternoon hours - then I think an upgrade to a Blizzard Warning will happen.
  17. So different from the last two Winters here. Even though there hasn’t been much snow here recently (last two winters were less than half of our 28 inch seasonal average), what made things worse is that anytime we had snow on the ground it seemed to melt off in a few days. Really liking the fact that we look to have a decent snow cover here for an extended period of time. Haven’t seen a pattern like this here since 2021 (especially 2019, when we had the record breaking spring floods).
  18. Here blizzard, blizzard, blizzard… looks like with this storm tracking further west, Omaha and Lincoln should get in the fun too. Could see some lollipop totals here as well if the short term models can be believed (fingers crossed). I think we are due…
  19. Jaycee, this literally made me laugh out loud. Snow forecasts in Omaha seem to always get screwed by some type of unforeseen phenomenon (too much dry air, warm air aloft or at the lower levels, sleet/pingers, Oma-dome, etc).
  20. We are building a nice snow glacier in up here in Nebraska and Iowa... once that's in place I can see the storm track shifting south for you guys down in Kansas (hopefully). Finally our "snow dome" appears to be cracking a bit.
  21. Haven't seen a forecast like this since the winter of 2021... getting some payback finally for the last couple of relatively warm and dry winters. I love it and come on Mother Nature, keep it coming!
  22. This would be one heck of a refresher snow... I would gladly take another 4-6" on top of what we got. We need to build the snowpack for the cold stretch ahead.
  23. Love it, what a true "spread the wealth" type system for the central plains... this storm definitely had some twists and turns for us all - however it turned out decent overall for Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Building that Midwestern snow glacier!
  24. Overnight snow really boosted our totals here in the Omaha metro as I measured right around 6" total in my backyard. Thankfully this storm didn't end up being a bust (even though we ended up on the "lighter" side of forecasted amounts), we unfortunately got caught in the middle with the wacky thermals and low level warm air that caused lots of melting yesterday... however it still worked out okay. Now it's on to the end of week "refresher" system incoming.
