3/13 - 3/14 Monster March Storm

This storm indeed had a severe side, and shockingly, it included The Mitt! Blows our entire "safe haven" moniker. We tossed it in the trash in fine fashion too - the very first event of the season!

Shiawassee County a bit west of my native town:

I-29 closed from just south of Omaha to the Missouri state line. Nebraska City along I-29 has set a record flood stage. Some of us Nebraska folks might be familiar with the truck stop along the interstate at the exit for N. City and inside they have pictures from 2011 where all you could see was the roof of the building. This flood is 2-3 feet higher

If it doesn't go under water highway 34 going west has a nice loves

I take hwy 2 home so Sapp Bros was convenient. There's a nice Love's/Hardee's combo in Syracuse but that's so close to Lincoln I don't know if it's even worth stopping there.

Been lucky so far papio Creek hasn't over flowed. Came close the first night though. Keep seeing people post that there was no warning. All the offices warned about this.

Same here except with Salt Creek. Got to moderate stage for like an hour on Thursday then died down. I'm glad Lincoln got spared of the impacts because of that.

Hastings NWS still taking over for OAX. Don't think we've seen one WFO take over for another since Miami NWS took over Puerto Rico NWS after Maria.

Aerial video of the flooding around Waterloo: https://www.facebook.com/429619287192448/posts/1232408240246878?sfns=mo

I keep going back to the flood of 2011 for reference, but that was nothing compared to 2019 bc that was primarily only along the Missouri River here in Nebraska.

:o  Looks like Harvey effects in TX! Crazy! Much worse than here last February. I don't think the ground was very froze here last winter for one thing and that prolly helped us versus the situation for you guys out there.

Paying bills is going to be a big struggle for me and my family due to this flood. Some of you already know I work in Fremont, Ne. I am also only provider for my family. As of right now I probably have enough reserve money to pay bills and maybe next months rent due (help from in laws) on the 4th but after that nothing. No idea when or if I'll be able to work for a while

Another levee failure in north bend, ne a few minutes ago means more bad news those downstream

This is just terrible JC, be safe and thoughts and prayers to you, your family and everyone else involved. I have some good friends who also live in Fremont and things sound pretty dire for you and the community.

I've always thought it was weird that Lincoln wasn't built on the Platte and it's just surrounded by cornfields, but it's definitely a blessing this year.

Snowfall in Lincoln, NE:

2017-18: 21.4"   2018-19: 55.5"   2019-20: 17.6"   2020-21: 49.4"   2021-22: 5.1" 🤮

Average: 26"
