SEA set a low of 40 this morning which is their earliest 40 or below since 2002 which also had a low of 40 on October 1.  I'm guessing it's probably in the top five for earliest 40 or below in the past 50 years.  Thankfully 2002 isn't an analog due to incorrect solar and ENSO.

Meanwhile it dropped to 33 here this morning.  Fell one degree short of my goal, but it was still frosty.

Death To Warm Anomalies!

I think their reasoning was that it cost them something like 1.3 cents to make and distribute a coin that only has a value of 1 cent.

The U.S. penny now costs more to manufacture than its face value, but our Federal government tends to be a little on the slow side when it comes to realizing the obvious and implementing the obvious solution.

The US also needs to adopt polymer banknotes like they do up there and in other countries. Harder to counterfeit compared to the paper banknotes we have now and also last longer.

Euro continues to be WAY slower than the GFS in bringing that front in early next week. Lots of warm SW flow.

Like the pattern though. At least they are originating from the GOA and not Maui.

Better to focus on what happens after the sun goes down with these pesky early March sun angles.

This was March 8th at my house...So should I be expecting a repeat any day now?

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Interesting tidbit about the Dec 1983 cold wave - I saw a scientific poster at a conference last year where the researchers came up with an index to quantify N. Hemisphere cold waves. The Dec 1983 cold wave was #1, at least by whatever metric they used in their study.

My understanding is the PNW just got clipped by the edge of the airmass and it was incredibly cold.

I used to live in Bartlesville, OK and the #'s it put up there are absolutely insane, especially for highs.

19th: 9/1

20th: 13/1

21st: 13/4

22nd: 6/0

23rd: 6/1

24th: 5/-3

25th: 12/-4

Their records go back to 1920 and they have never had another arctic outbreak with highs in the single digits...

They ran a -14 departure for the month

Just looking at Silver Falls #'s for December 2015. Officially 1" of snow on Christmas, a 35/31 day...I got back into town late that night fro Oklahoma. We had about 6" on the ground. Looks like we picked up about 23" of rain that month... Forgot how wet it was.
