October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Being real here...I haven’t even begun to think about winter yet. I just want this stupid fücking heat to end.

Going to be 95+ degrees again tomorrow. The weather hasn’t changed for over 5 months now.

Luckily the forecast for DC looks like plenty of relief is on the way. Hopefully you can score some cool days.

Second rate licorice coated in chalky white and purple sugar paste.

I'd like to think I'm adventurous in terms of food choices (plus, I've eaten Natto before and nothing can be worse), so I'd love to try it sometime.

Natto isn't really all that bad; I've tried it. Then again, I like strong and unusual flavors.

For bad, you can't beat salt licorice. Yes, a salt "candy" made mostly with salt instead of sugar. Wait… it gets worse. It's often not normal table salt (sodium chloride) but ammonium chloride instead. It tastes like one might imagine a mouthful of Windex or Mr. Clean would taste. It's popular in northern Europe.

Nothing goes with a movie like a big can of baked beans.

WTF ND?

I think they mean these:

Boston Baked Beans

Boston Baked Beans History

"The Boston Baked Bean" is a generic name used throughout the candy industry for sugar coated peanuts. The Ferrara Pan Candy Company developed their line of Boston Baked Beans in the early 1930's, right around the same time that Red Hots were introduced.

Ahhhh.

I grew up just a couple hours from ND and have never heard of that term for candy in my life.

Natto's taste for me is fine, it's the texture which I cannot stand. But gosh, salt licorice sounds awful, and I'll have to try it sometime haha

The Japanese make candy from actual beans:

I thought it was strange at first but I've actually grown quite fond of it.

For Seattle, of course, gradient isn’t much for PDX.

Unfortunately, none of it surprises me. Suppression of free speech and differing ideas is all too common in academia today.

Just totally ridiculous. Nobody should have their opinions suppressed because it differs from “what your opinion should be”. Climate change has become such an emotionally charged politicized topic now that you will get called a racist Republican trump lover for disagreeing, even if you’re not a “conservative”. (Not trying to advocate for conservatives or liberals just don’t like censorship of ideas).

It’s disturbing to watch. The suppression of intellectual debate (including, recently, some potentially groundbreaking science) is the antithesis of higher education and enlightenment.

And it never ends well. You can only keep that cork in for so long.

Much like everything else in the universe, though, this sociopolitical stuff is also cyclical. It’s just the nature of humanity and societies.

Usually runs 3-4 generations..dogma is born, maintained, then undermined/inverted from within/below.
