October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

It’s early, but given the evolution of the pattern since mid/late August, I think the progression through the first third of winter has become clearer than it would have been otherwise.

Been experimenting with a multitude of potential evolutions but there’s one in particular that the system appears to be following, almost to a tee. I think I’m about ready to make a prediction for N/D/J.

Looks pretty chilly. Would be another shot of lows in the 30s with that pattern.

Nice to see the gfs sticking with the same pattern the last several days. Has been consistent.

Ha. I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything obvious. Give a few hours.

Another low of 24 today, after having a low of 25 yesterday. I'll be watching the average low this week and compare it to other years in the beginning of October. These mid-20's some years only come in singles and go right back up to around or near freezing.

We have been looking at property over in Spokane last month or so, not 100% certain yet but sometime next year may be moving there. I was curious how their winters compare to here.

They are actually a little colder I think. I think the average temp in Spokane mid-winter is 34/22 compared to 40/20 for K-Falls.

I see that they average roughly the same or slightly more snowfall, but the number I came up with was "yearly" which usually means Jan-Dec. I can't find a seasonal snowfall avg. Anyhow, they should still have Spring and Fall right, their elevation is a lot lower.

Had a meeting in downtown Tacoma yesterday. And for the record... downtown Tacoma is actually quite nice.

But when I came out out to my car... the driver side window was smashed in with glass everywhere. And they hit at least 5 more cars in the same row. They cleaned out my console and got about $10 in change. Hope that was worth the effort! And hope they cut themselves up on all the glass which was all over the entire interior. They also left me with a $350 repair bill. <_>

Nice, doesn't seem like too much of a change of weather overall. Dec/Jan is about the same snowfall plus maybe an inch. July average high is the same as KLMT even.

I assume you were either downtown or on the south side of town. Never see that stuff in my nieghboorhood but all the time south of 6th ave. Sorry to hear that!

Didn’t see the “I was in downtown Tacoma” part of that, lol. There’s been a lot of money going into making hilltop and downtown safer and more high end, but there’s obviously still plenty of problems.

Still the 12Z ECMWF only shows a quick shot of rain on Tuesday afternoon for about 3 hours and then back to dry and sunny.

A much drier pattern has emerged now... more normal for this time of year.

62 and sunny here with a little breeze picking up. Very nice day. The ECMWF had shown lots of rain for today on the runs this past weekend... but it turned out much nicer.

Oh man that sucks. My car was broken into before in downtown Portland. Only had a bunch of pennies in there and they took it all.

Carhoppers, they hit all the change in your car specifically and then go cash in at Safeway at the coin star machines. Amazing how desperate drugs makes people.
