October 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

We have been looking at property over in Spokane last month or so, not 100% certain yet but sometime next year may be moving there. I was curious how their winters compare to here.

We are also looking for property to build a house. Been a tough search as Spokane' rapid growth is making supply limited and more expensive. maybe we will be neighbors. ;)

It can happen anywhere.

Sure can. People say K-Falls has a high crime rate, hooligans and thieves everywhere, but the majority of the issues consist of maybe a dozen blocks or so in the suburbs. About half the time I pull up an article from Herald and News about something, a very familiar street name comes up.  Usually a street anywhere from 2-5 miles from my house up the hill. A weather weenie who used to live in K-Falls actually (not a member here) in the early 2000's, the guy must have had bad luck or something, he thinks this town has the worst crime rate in Oregon. Medford I'm pretty sure is worse. I've lived in this house since 2012 and this block up here had no more than probably 1 break-in and that was 3 or 4 years ago. The guy who owns that home is somebody who probably knew too many people who also knew other people that were not so honest.

I was gonna say, we had a bunch of break ins in our neighbourhood 2 nights ago. People breaking into garages and stealing things like dirt bikes and tools.

There was maybe one time a couple years ago our Nissan was rummaged through, but we may have accidentally left it unlocked one night and nothing was broken.

Had a meeting in downtown Tacoma yesterday. And for the record... downtown Tacoma is actually quite nice.

But when I came out out to my car... the driver side window was smashed in with glass everywhere. And they hit at least 5 more cars in the same row. They cleaned out my console and got about $10 in change. Hope that was worth the effort! And hope they cut themselves up on all the glass which was all over the entire interior. They also left me with a $350 repair bill. <_>

Downtown Tacoma is not nice.  Just stop Tim.  Stop.

It's a hole.

It's a s**t hole.

Yeah can’t argue with that. Downtown, south side, east side are the same. There’s a reason they call it Tacompton.

Carhoppers, they hit all the change in your car specifically and then go cash in at Safeway at the coin star machines. Amazing how desperate drugs makes people.

Yep. That's happened here a couple times to me... fortunately, they didn't break any windows and I didn't leave anything valuable in the car.

Pro tip - leave your vehicle unlocked and make your change easy to find.

Sorry to hear that Tim and your correct....can happen anywhere. It truly is nice downtown in fact I prefer Tacoma and their waterfront over going to Seattle now.

Everything about Tacoma is better than Seattle IMO.

Looks like another trough getting ready to move in at hour 216.

It’s funny how some people on here are so obsessed over troughs in October thinking it portrays something for the winter.

I really think November and December will be our time to shine. We may do okay in January too, but I do think February is a bit warmer than what we have seen the past few years.

Latest ENSO update showed dramatic warming in the Nino 3.4 region. However, the latest CFS ensembles show conditions returning and maintaining essentially neutral levels

we’ve had snow the last 3 Februaries, and 5 out of the last 9. Seems likely that if there is action it won’t happen in February.

My thoughts exactly. It has been nice to see February performing well again though after it took a nearly two decade hiatus.

Think we're due for a Thanksgiving snow event. At my place 5-6" depths when the ham is in the oven.

December is 2 for 8 over the last decade and January is 1 for 9. Odds are definitely stacked towards a front loaded winter.

Looks like we have a decent shot at hitting 70 down here Sunday or Monday. But still looking cool overall.

Still should be around average or maybe even below average if we can get some cool nights.

I wouldn't doubt a couple highs around 70. Some stations may still have a cool-ish month when its all said and done.

I bet you’re way smarterer.

All I’m saying is it’s comical how people are on here regarding what I’ve been saying. And here I thought people on the east coast were bad (sorry Phil)

Four degree gradient between Portland and the central WV right now. Hopefully not a sign of this winter. :(

I expect sometime in December Salem will be 34 and socked in the fog while PDX is 42 and sunny with a raging east wind

Ok but I know there’s this sense on here that the frequency of troughs in October dictate winter just like snow wizards dumb NPI

Translated: “F**k this stupid motherf**king blowtorch and f**k all of you who get to enjoy real autumn weather”.

And why attack Jim over an index you don’t even understand? The October myths are amusing but personal attacks should be reserved for those who actually deserve it.
