Part I - January 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

They plow with one inch? lol

And he is still working on it out there... cleaning up the edges.     He is just trying to keep busy.    ^_^

Our development has a private company contracted to plow our roads.  That guy is out there driving around now running up the bill.  King County maintains the main road down to North Bend.    The county is always on top of the main road.   They plow just about every hour when its snowing... and always put de-icer down when they know there will be frost.   It seems like the county has one plow just dedicated to just our area up here.

Just went on Facebook and it looks like Bellingham is getting donut holed.  Everyone around Bellingham is posting pictures and reports of fairly heavy snow.  I need to move out into the county!

I wouldn't consider that an event.

2 inches in 6 hours for me....I'd be thrilled with that and would certainly call that 'an event'.

They know who is paying the taxes.

The county does a pretty good job of plowing Silver Falls Hwy. They won't plow for an inch or two, but for any significant snow it seems like they do an okay job with it. They come down our road once a day if we have a big snow, which is nice considering on our mile long road there are only 4-5 houses.

I think we are headed to the cabin for the weekend for the cold and snow there then head back home monday for the fun here. Should be pretty nasty over there Sunday night.

Have fun and be safe.

My brother in law is going up to our place just past Snoqualmie tonight for the weekend. Should be great conditions to snowmobile in.

36 when I went to bed under mostly clear skies at 10:00 and 36 and raining now...buzzkill.

My dream was correct...I dreamed that I woke up and looked outside and saw nothing but wet. I also dreamed that the Seahawks were losing 122-0, so that's not a good sign.

Satellite internet is not working due to my huge 2” snow accumulation...Otherwise you would be seeing pics of my 2”! Still some flakes flying but it has gotten quite windy and the snow is melting off of the trees like crazy. 32.9 currently. Shoveled the deck...brought back fond memories of last year. ❄️

I have to figure out if I can stream the game somehow.    There is no chance my DirectTV dish will be getting a signal on Sunday evening.

Stanwood and Arlington schools are 2hrs late, I just saw one of my friends post on FB that it’s ridiculous since there is no snow in Stanwood and the roads are fine. 2” of snow covered roads and major hills in my area and other parts of the district with elevation...That is why they are running late. Another non weather person that doesn’t get elevation and microclimates.

My coworker said that he thought it was supposed to snow yesterday morning...

The Snoqualmie Valley school district figured out how to solve that problem a few years ago.   Our district has the same issue with different elevations and snow amounts.   They will be open and on time unless there is lots of snow in the valley.    They just won't run the buses in the higher areas and those people have to bring their kids to school.    It would be silly to be late or closed every time there is snow up here but not in the valley.   That happens all winter.

I am going to post a little perspective before I go back into weenie mode. This is going to be a big league airmass for much of the region. I would love to see it penetrate south to Sacramento and put up highs in the low 20s on the Southern Oregon Coast. But even though that is not going to happen I just wanted to point out that it is very possible if not likely Seattle has 850mb temps below -15C. That is pretty special.

Yeah it could get challenging. I can’t even stream here. Was going to come up with a very long pole that I could use to at least swipe off the dishes regularly this summer but simply forgot. We also have satellite at the lake house now as well so that’s not an option.

I used a light bulb changer pole that could extend to like 20 feet or more.   Then duct taped a towel on the end.

But my wife threw it away this past summer.   <_>

Just throw snowballs at it and the impact will shake off the snow. Problem solved!

If you have a Roku or something similar you can probably download the Fox app, link it to your DirecTV account, and live stream through there.

I have the FOX Sports app on my phone. But could not watch the Seahawks game in Hawaii. They were showing Packers-Bears. Might work on Sunday though since its the only game going on.

That might work for my internet dish since it’s much lower. I should rig something up tomorrow. Directv dish is much higher. That is the challenging one.
