The Pacific is fighting back: low clouds have started to build and the onshore breeze is strengthening. Even some fog as the cooler ocean air slams into the hot, sticky air over the land. Sometimes I saw this in 2015 when the sea breeze returned during a particularly hot day.

Better than the nonsoon we have had up to the middle of last week. A lot more interesting.

I've been going through a lot more clothes over the last few days because I keep drenching them in sweat every few hours, even at night. At least you have the nice cool beach only a few minutes away, over here we're stuck with 100F+ for six days now.

Tons of new fire starts in the bay area from the dry thunderstorms that moved through there a couple of days ago. Smoke can be seen all over the state with air quality quickly deteriorating.

The pattern shown over the next 10 days is really ideal for keeping the smoke to the east of the Cascades.     Lucky break up here.

Reminds me of 2015

Actually its more like 2008 in CA.   Even your dream summers are smoky somewhere in the West.

The 2008 California wildfire season was one of the most devastating since the turn of the 21st Century. While only 4,923 fires occurred,[3] about half as many as in 2007, the total area burned far exceeded that of previous years.[1] Throughout the year, 1,593,690 acres (6,449.4 km2) of land were burned.[4]

Yikes!

It’s a little tricky to see with all the smoke but there’s an unusual low cloud distribution today. North end of the Santa Monica Bay (offshore and into Malibu area) has marine gunk encroaching, while all of PV up through around LAX is clear as crystal. Usually it’s the reverse.
