Tom
Friday evening is looking pretty good for a line of storms from Iowa through Michigan. After that, models are trying to cut off another upper low over the east and block up the pattern again.I don't mind a pattern like this for the rest of summer...Active period followed by a drier period...keeps things balanced and your able to enjoy the outdoors more often. I'm looking forward to seeing some good storms when I get back (after the holiday of course).

I'm looking forward to seeing some good storms when I get back (after the holiday of course).I'm with you on that. I've liked this parttern pretty well. One of the critical differences between this year and the last 4 summers here is just that. The presence of dry, cool air. (For summer at least.) I actually look for that to intensify (relative to average) as we continue and get to look past the middle of next month. June has been absolutely beautiful here. Feels like its only been "hot" summer for a week or so.

Tom
Happy Friday! Another action packed day of wx back home and for a lot of us Midwesterner's. I believe this is the second Enhanced Risk for season across N IL as today's set up looks very legit to support several rounds of storms as some could be quite intense later this evening.
Tom
Next week's pattern will feature a pattern that reminds me of the good ol' Johnny Cash...."Ring of Fire" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfCOJLRk2D4 Mother Nature will seemingly hold off on any organized storms for the big 4th of July holiday weekend for many of us to enjoy. It's all about timing as they say...boy, after the holiday the wx pattern in the extended looks warm/humid with daily chances of summery pop up thunderstorms. The A/C's will be cranking in a tropical GOM air mass.

Hawkeye
I'm not optimistic about storms here later. Stormy
Still a bit of distant thunder now. Tom
The story of hits and misses continue across our board. I know back home, there have been more hits than misses as my place got pounded with torrential rain and wind but no hail. I was told the grass was getting stressed before the rains came this week so timing was good. ORD picked up 1.48" of rain and MDW reported .90" of rain in 15 minutes! Talk about tropical downpours...speaking of the tropics, it's going to feel like that throughout the next 10 days as Summer warmth and humidity are pretty much locked in for the extended. I'm looking forward to "feeling" some humidity. Kinda getting bored of the persistent heat and dryness out here in the desert. The only thing to talk about here is the cool down that is expected Mon-Thu of next week as temps dip into the upper 90's. That will feel refreshing. I just looked at the 10-day forecast back home and temps are expected to be in the upper 80's to near 90F with daily chances of storms. That almost looks identical to a forecast for someone living in Florida! Here are some amazing photos of the storms...in some of these shots you can hear God speaking down upon us...along with picturesque Rainbow's...
Tom
After years of constantly missing out on severe storms or even the lack of any significant thunderstorms, this year seems to have broken that trend. I know Jaster has brought this up many times in years past. This year, it seems to me like nature has changed that trend. Last nights radar blew up across S MI! http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/current/mcview.phtml?prod=lotrad&java=script&mode=archive&frames=100&interval=5&year=2020&month=6&day=26&hour=18&minute=
Tom
Last nights Euro run sure did paint a magnificent picture for the upcoming 4th of July weekend around the GL's. In fact, there are other models also showing the same thing and suggesting a weak ridge of HP coming down out of Canada keeping temps in the low 80's with very comfortable DP's in the 50's/60's! Wow, that would be about as perfect of a forecast you can ask for.
westMJim
Here at my house I recorded 0.73″ of rain last night. Not much in the way of storms here a few flashes of lightning, some moderate rain fall but no wind at all here. Currently cloudy and 69 here with a DP of 67. Officially June at GRR now has a mean temperature of 66.8 that is good for a departure of +0.7 and there officially has been 2.84” of rain fall with 3.30 being the average for this time in June.
