We hit a high of 77F yesterday and it really didn't feel that warm in the sun, or the lack thereof, due to the milky/hazy skies.  It's wild how smokey it is out here and it looks like it will continue for the next couple days.

Woke up this morning to the smell of burning wood throughout the house.  I think my neighbor had a fire last night and I sure love that smell!  Nice, cool and calm morning here today...61F/54F...I see some upper 40's are in the grid later this week/weekend.  That's gonna feel a bit chilly for my thin blood.  Slowly but surely I'm getting used to this pleasant weather.  I accomplished a lot of yard work yesterday and while I was doing so, for the first time this season, the D**n mosquito's were out!  Wouldn't ya know it, that at the tail end of the season, I had to deal with a few of them.

The way the sky looked yesterday it was almost like living on a different planet. At this time here in Grand Rapids it is now as hazy as yesterday but there is still a milky look to the sky.

Today is noticeably more sunnier than yesterday.  I can see blue color up in the sky which was non existent yesterday.

The haze here is so thick that our high temp forecast has dropped from 81 to 72. It basically looks cloudy out there, and the sun in the sky is so faint that I can directly stare at it. 59.4*F and barely rising.

Concern for air quality is high today.  Our athletic director has told all coaches of outdoor sports to decide if practices should occur with problems for anyone with breathing issues.  Right now all is good.  Fairly cool morning and I didn't smell any smoke yet.  I'll report tonight how it went.

After a couple of cool-ish days here, the rest of the month will be boring here as well. By the time things may get interesting again, it'll be October.

I am all for this boring fall weather after the last 3 years of wet fall weather around my area, and cold for some long stretches.  I swear October 2018 had over 50% of the days with snow on the ground.

How is Fargo weather treating you so far, what you expected?  Sick of the wind yet?  If it does get wet and muddy and you take a drive in the country watch out for mud on the road from the beet trucks and just watch out for them in general.  Sugar beet harvest starts Oct 1.

Tropics are as active as can be. I believe there are 5 name storms. If Sally has been downgraded to  TD, then, make that 4 name storms. Let me know! Also, last time there were 5 name storms, was back in 1971. Dang!

I moved here for the weather! I'm never sick of the wind. I do drive a lot in the country, so thanks for the warning about the trucks.

Speaking of smokey: Hopefully people out on the WC are coping "Okay" w these wildfires and those who lost their homes, hopefully, can haven in somewhere safe.

We got through our practices well today. Cool front came in and turned the wind out of the north. The smoke became a little thicker about 2 pm, but the breeze helped to disperse it some. Now I don’t smell the smoke anymore and we’ve dropped to 60 degrees at 8 pm, heading towards the upper 40’s. All in all, not as bad as advertised in my area for outdoor activities.

It was a splendid day yesterday.  Perfect autumn day in my book.  Temps topped out at 84F but the breeze made it feel quite nice.  The CF swept through yesterday evening and I woke up this morning to the sound of the gusty winds blowing the trees in my back yard.  Looking forward to a stretch of cooler days in the low/mid 60's and nippy nights in the 40's!  Dry weather in the foreseeable future with bountiful sunshine.

With frost advisories and lows in the 30’s the next 3 nights now is a time to look back. For Friday AM the record low at Grand Rapids is 35 set in 1973. It got down to 36 in 1974. The last time the low was below 40 on September 18th was a low of 38 in 1995. For Saturday AM the record low is 36 set in in 1979, 1929, 1902.  The last time it got below 40 on the 19th was 39 in 2012. On Sunday AM the record low is 33 set in 1956 and the last time it got below 40 was a 38 set in 1991. At this time it is cloudy and 57 here.

Sunny and 57F attm. Absolutely gorgeous. First  "Frost Advisories" of the season is a strong possibility for my area Fri nite and Sat, as temps dip into the mid to upper 30s w clear skies and light winds. Highs not getting outta the 50s both days. Now, that is a strong taste of Autumn knocking on my doorstep.

Btw: Would not be surprised, if we break some record low temps w this cold airmass coming. Have to wait and see on that.

The updated long range guess from the CPC is out and they are thinking that this fall will be warm and for the winter the idea is for a equal chances on the temperature (think near average) but their thinking is for a wetter than average winter season and into the spring. We will have to see how that plays out. With sunny skies and no noticeable smoke the temperature here is 66.

Something you don't really see everyday.....A cyclone to hit Greece! Not necessarily a Hurricane, but will have the characteristics of a hurricane, w very strong winds, flooding, storm surge and very hvy rainfall.

34F in my grid for Saturday am. Can't remember the last time we had legit frost concerns this early. Some recent years I thought we'd make it through October without a solid 32F morning. Not a fan of so much dry stretches tho

A little too early for this coldsnap, indeed. Tbh, I am looking forward to a nice, Autumnlike rainstorm that last all day, along w windy, chilly conditions. These sunny days are getting old now. I think we had enough of them all Summer long. My extended shows nothing but sunshine. Ugh!

My area falls in the Oct 11-20 Cat, so way ahead of schedule this year. Wonder if it will be a record early "Frost." .

Jaster, you are in the Oct 1-10 Cat, so still way too soon.

Had some time to kill, so I did some research on when the first frost usually occurs on average: Here are some average dates for the first <35 degree temperatures in the fall: Some of these numbers are still b4 Astronomical Autumn, technically speaking, so, you can see this in different ways.

Houghton Lake - September 4

Alpena - September 11

Sault Saint Marie - September 21

Lansing - September 22

Marquette - September 28

Flint - September 28

Jackson - September 30

Traverse City - September 30

Saginaw - October 1

Kalamazoo - October

Muskegon - October 4

Grand Rapids - October 5

Ann Arbor - October 5

Bay City - October 6

Detroit - October 12

Rise and Shine!  Happy Friday all...it's a breezy and cool morning here (59F) with a stiff NNE wind off the lake.  Took a look at temps in the region and we are seeing plenty of places up north with freezing temps.  Some record lows are being set in the Northwoods this morning.  The Autumn chill is real this year and many of us are going to start seeing the leaves changing color pretty quick up north and around the GL's.

Frost Advisories hoisted for parts of N IN and may be expanded into MI for the weekend.  I think there will be patchy frost around here in the outlying areas away from the lake Sat morning.
