Big blow up this afternoon on the eastern flank of the Santiam fire complex and the smoke is racing off to the NE.   So at least it should stop accumulating on the west side.

It may be possible to hang onto the smoke longer than the models project.  They are always way too fast to kick out the cold air.  Could be the same with this set up.

Probably not. The transitions (and associated forecast busts) in winter happen when mild onshore flow replaces cold offshore flow. We're already getting the onshore flow. It just happens to have been polluted by smoke-laden easterlies from Oregon earlier in the week. Once the supply of that to the west and southwest runs out, it will clear.

People feel tougher when they can remain anonymous. I'd be curious to see how many downvotes stop if @iFred changes the "somebody" to your real username.

Who cares?

Well, it's a done deal. All my stuff is moved in and the rental truck and tow dolly are returned. What a freaking ordeal!

I asked my neighbor what the hell happened to my beautiful new adopted state since I'd been here last. "Well," he said, "we tried to burn it down." Holy mackerel. Came a little too close for comfort. There's ash and downed trees and debris everywhere on my property Can't even see the hills across the valley a half mile away.

At least the air seemed mostly breathable while I was exerting myself schlepping stuff around. No ill effects that I notice. Hope the rain next week for once delivers.

63 today after a low of 50, the air quality at the Yew street station on the south side of town has been hovering around 185 most of the day today.  Threw MEV15 filters on a few fans for some air circulation last night, and this is what it looks like after 10 hours.  Did the job though, cooled the house off and no smoke in the house.

Cannot imagine the 400+ down in Oregon.

I agree, we should be able to see who reacts in any way.  I think if you follow someone it will show their name if they react, not 100% sure though.   I have seen a couple names show up with reaction notifications, that's why I say that.

Mainly 2 events caused our smoky disaster this year. First were the dry thunderstorms that hit California in the middle of August. Second was the insane cold front that dropped temperatures nearly 60 degrees in Denver in one day and caused the crazy dry east wind event.

Went from a high temp of 85 on Thursday to just 59 today. Today was our coolest day since May 3rd. It’s also our earliest sub 60 temp on record. Not the way I was hoping to get a sub 60 day though. Glad the pattern is changing and rain is coming.

I was just commenting on how now that HWY 22, 126, and 138 are all burned out we need to explore the upper Willamette region . Also close to the in laws!
