November 2015 in the Pacific Northwest

Getting some lower snow levels will improve my outlook.

That probably is the million dollar question over the next two weeks.  Can we get cold and moisture at the same time to any great degree?  The GFS has clearly been advertising plenty of moisture and some decent shots of chilly air.  Remains to be seen if we can get a good mix for the mountains.  I'm just thrilled the mega blowtorch of Dec 2014 is not in sight right now.

As I mentioned in an earlier post it's pretty interesting the second half of this year has been far cooler than last year in spite of the Nino being way stronger.

Looks like most of the precip in the next 10 days is with warm air... probably no net gain for the mountains.   Disappointing for skiing and the resorts that have been hurt the last couple years.   Not having a record warm month still does not mean a good month for the mountains.   And certainly does not mean something interesting for the lowlands.

What was your average that month? I did ok here compared to many stations in Western WA, but it sounds like you got colder. Snow cover undoubtedly helped. That would have been a nice one to score snow before the cold snap.

I'll have to go back and look, but it was a pretty chilly month. Off hand I'd say 39/28 for my monthly averages that month.

Already 22 degrees here.  If we can somehow squeeze out some precip in the morning, it will likely at least start as freezing drizzle, especially considering how cold the ground is during this fake cold snap.  Not expecting anything terribly interesting though.

Looks like the inversion in breaking up... I was expecting to see dense fog on the traffic cams this morning but most of it is gone.   And it looks the like the temps have gone up overnight.

Certainly not here temp wise, just another clear and cold early morning.

I can't win.

Im too inactive when I let people express their opinions. I'm over reaching when I put someone on mod preview. I'm deaf to the community when I don't take heed to the mob with pitchforks and torches. Everything I do is wrong and I should keep the focus on PDX weather, because the Canadains have their own forum. I should give up, because everyone reads Fox12, or everyone belongs to a Facebook group. I'm the reason we don't have pro mets, or I'm the reason regulars don't return. I apparently run both a troll garden and oppress the views of cold lovers.

I get the ask, if I ban Member X, then people will post in droves. That never works. I won't ban someone because they're optimistic or pessimistic. I won't ban someone that a group of people have minor grievances with, or if they're a little snippy with someone. Most of us are adults with mature opinions about the weather, so it's fine to post and argue over it. If you don't like the conversation that one poster is trying to drive, then try to be a part of that discussion and drive it somewhere else.

Personal insults, political, family, religious or socioeconomic, will start off with a warning, mod preview, temp ban, and a permanent ban. If I am missing something because I live 2900 miles away from the action, then send me a PM or report the post. I'll act on issues that are obviously not helping to drive the discussion forward. If you feel someone else is getting picked on, then send me a PM with examples, and I'll reach out to the involved parties.

I want you to know I appreciate the time, effort, and the excellent way you moderate this board. I have moderated some non-weather forum boards in the past and I am more than aware of the challenges it entails, I think you do an excellent job and appreciate your fairness, and reasonable approach. Babysitting people who should know better is a super challenging balancing act and I just want to thank you for all that you do!!! ;)

How strong of windstorm and timing? I start my new job this week!

How is your job affected by wind?

The storm next Monday ends up curving to the north, so not a big deal at this point.

The WRF is showing the potential for a moderate wind event for northern Oregon on Thursday night.

Family and I are staying in Leavenworth for a couple nights. Suprisingly it was snowing lightly all day yesterday and this morning and has been getting heavier even though forecast called for sun and some clouds. Southeast winds must be pushing against the cascades and squeezing moisture out.

Looking into the historical record at Eugene. The streak of 4 consecutive sub-20 lows ties for the 2nd longest November streak with 1978. The most consecutive sub-20 lows at EUG was 7 in November 1952. We all know how awesome that winter turned out ;).

If the power is out, its much harder getting to work. Also if power is out my company probably does not have a generator. However bring on any snow or windstorms!

Nice to see some GFS runs show some inkling of hope later in December (week two and beyond) Yes, La-la-land and it is only the GFS but at least there appears to be some possibility of coolish weather and not a total torch. :)  Fingers crossed for more movement in the direction of even colder.

Coldest morning yet, 18 current degrees.

Same here with a low of 18.1.  It looks like Arlington had it's 4th consecutive low of 18F.  I was surprised to see that this month will end up the coldest November since 1992 when I started keeping records here, barely beating out the 38.9F average in November 2003.
