  1. Perfect day on the Sound for fishing and beside getting a small coho even caught an octopus ( not my intention)! First time handling one of these amazing creatures. I was awestruck by the ability of how this guy could connect and disconnect his suction cups....crazy creature. Scared the crud out me when he first attached to me with one of his arms as I was taking the hook out of another arm. I love fishing in the Sound as ya never know what your going to pull up Screwed up on my video of the Octopus....did not hit the record button and thought I was filming...ugh Sun is just now trying to break through the clouds 66*

  2. Volcanic activity is following the Solar Minimum affect. We will see increased volcanic activity along with increased earthquakes in the years ahead. Ubinas volcano in Peru blasted to life Ash plume reached 25,000 feet Seismically experiencing up to 400 quakes per day. https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/ubinas/news/83655/Ubinas-volcano-Peru-activity-update-Powerful-explosive-eruption.html The red icons are currently active and the orange icons are volcanos on heightened alert. 4. Always fascinated by weather history. I looked up Nebraska’s spread. All time high 118 in July of 1936. All time low is -47 in 1899. That is a 165 degree spread. You’re correct, no place on earth like the central United States.

  5. "An aside," is a term used by the late 'Hort' of the 'Mars Rover Blog.' He was one of the best raw image processors of all time. You can find him on flicker, goggle, Hortonheardawho. Venus is totally volcanic. Recent data is limited. A raw view of the surface basalt flows below.

  6. Recent Lunar observations may tie in to your discussion here. An uptick in recent activity has been observed. Moonquakes do occur. There are three prodomante types, deep, shallow and thermal. Then there is the impact type, never know about that. Deep quakes may and mostly likely are responsible for recent transitory flashes of light observed by many observatories over the last few weeks. Deep quakes most likely produce outgassing, its interaction with solar particles are thought to produce these flashes. Ref: https://phys.org/news/2019-05-moon.html A Moon discussion must include the dust elevation phenomenon. This is a fascinating event that involves a thermal electrostatic eteology. It happens shortly after sunrise. The phenomonon was first observed by Apollo astronauts. NASA image below. 1953 transitory flash: The new discovery of water ice at the poles of the Moon must be mentioned. The new Moon base will injoy free water. That is to say, it is not bound. Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo. We all await the first woman on the Moon. Image Lunar water ice from LRO:

  8. My state once did a span of -31F (all-time state record low) to over 80F in the span of a week back in the end of Jan to Feb 2011. I don't know about in one year but almost sure interior Montana has the record for temperature range overall. Something like -58 to 110+ actual temps. I used to know a website to check these. Edit:187 degree span all time. -70F to 117F

  12. Haven’t fished Diamond Lake yet but other family members love it there! 6 trout....nice, open fire with a fry pan, butter, a little seasoning and drink of choice ....yum! Cheers to fishing and weather

  13. Pretty cool man. I love fishing waters that may turn up something different. I fished Diamond Lake last weekend and caught 6 decent trout. But I knew I was going to catch them. Hogs though. The salmon hatch is huge. When I used to fish the Columbia and willamette, it was always a crapshoot. Fun stuff.

  16. Yeah it’s definitely the quiet season around here. This place was pretty active in February. Fast forward 5 months and now we’re in the boring season. We will be back into more interesting weather come October most likely.

  20. Not sure about the all-time record. I’ll inquire with office in Chanhassen. They’re usually good about responding to public inquiries. Edit: largest yearly actual temp spread is 142F in 1936. Jan 22 was -34F, July 14 was 108F. Not sure yet about Wind chill and heat index records.

  25. Well the seacond round did come but once again the northern zones got the brunt of the action the central to southern zone got screwed it seemed Dc really got screwed big time I guess the hot air there evaporated all the storms from getting there.

  26. Had a good storm move through this afternoon knocking the temps down. Only made it to 81F here and it looks like 85F in town so Bozeman is still searching for the first 90+ of the year. Looks like the next couple of days they may get there but the models have been over shooting for quite some time now. http://i64.tinypic.com/25gtlra.jpg

  28. With the heat last Friday, there is now a 170F spread in the ‘feels like’ temp at MSP this year. Wind chill of -55F on Jan 30 and a heat index of 115F on July 19. Actual temp spread is 123F. Not too many places in the world get that big of an extreme. The beauty of the Midwest USA.

  29. Now you're getting the picture. If the cold gets as deep as they predict, the Ag belt will slip south. We'll be importing more from nations to our south. Tropical nations could be changed into agricultural powerhouses. The southern US and Southern Hemisphere will see immigration pick up as anyone with the means, will haul it south. And manufacturing that's in the northern states may find itself needing to relocate. This won't happen overnight, but go back and read up on how Europe changed in the Little Ice Age. The Rennaisance occurred in Southern Europe. Northern Rennaisance productivity existed but was overshadowed by the south. The Enlightenment was an outgrowth of society needing to meet its peoples needs. Kingship ended. America was founded. Yeah, it's going to change. Weather is weather. Climate is history.

  30. 4th day in a row of strong storms firing up right over Bozeman. Another 0.2" here on the day and 2.23" on the month. Morning sun followed by strong to severe storms looks to continue through at least Tuesday. Pretty neat Cumulonimbus clouds with almost a Mammatus look to them today as the storm rolled in. http://i64.tinypic.com/2gt6t21.jpg
