  1. One hell of a view today. Wasn’t able to capture Mt.Baker yesterday but got it today! Will be getting photos of the full moon and the planets tonight.

  3. Happy Halloween! Jaw dropping sunset tonight from the top of Mt.Constitution.

  4. Still have really nice fall color here on Halloween. I assume that is because we had lots of rain in September and October and there has been almost no below freezing temps and not much wind either. Good combination for the trees.

  5. Good news with the time change tonight, extra hour of sleep and the weather models come out 1 hour earlier tomorrow

  7. I know I told a couple of you guys that I'd send my fall colors pics from the UP last month. I forgot. Oops.

  8. Kind of a slightly off topic post here. Last year we got a new cat and we later found out she is a Maine Coon. Over the last couple of weeks her coat has puffed out to where it looks she could weather a winter on the North Pole! Probably just because of the kind of cat she is, but maybe we will see a winter to put that coat to the test.

  9. Nice! i set up a table to grab from. So far just a few kids. I’ve got my singing pumpkins going with lightning and fog! Look pretty cool.

  11. This can stop by any time this winter. Low Res GEM makes for nice eye-candy here with it's wide areal coverage. NAM's much more realistic with a narrow band coming into SWMI. Kuchera has me at 0.1-0.3" so I might just get on the board if things go right.

  12. The EPS looks a bit better than the ECMWF operational, but the control is almost identical to the op run. On the good side of the ledger there is strong indication the GOA blocking will last longer than originally shown. I don't get that worked up about these November cold snaps, because I always have mixed feelings about them anyway. Very often a big November results in a lousy January. I would be perfectly happy with prolonged moderate cold as opposed to the big blast so early.

  15. Unlike last year the teleconnections look like they could play in our favor this year. These are the Euro forecast and the GFS Ensemble look very similar.

  16. Love it. Hopefully a storm system to go with it.

  17. A lot of our greatest snow events (overrunning events) are also warm front patterns technically. You can’t have a warm front without a cooler airmass in place in the first place.

  18. 00Z EPS... looks like the cold will be centered over the West for quite awhile.

  19. Good morning. 36 here currently with a little frost trying to form.

  20. Off topic or out of area but anyone see the Florida to NC mauler on the GFS(00z)? I'm out of ways to say the tropics are off the chain in 2020. They have almost broken the naming system.

  21. My smooth coated Border Collie is currently chilly so she is snuggled up with me...Must mean winter is going to be massively cold! Or she is just laying next to me hoping that I might share my gelato...

  22. I've got a tuxedo with a thick coat as well. She's super friendly and loves attention, even from my dog, who despite playing quite rough, has yet to strike any sort of fear into my cats innocent little heart. It's the best when you cup her in your arms on her back. I call her a living pillow, though I don't think she's partial to letting me rest her head on her back

  23. Solidly cold GFS run tonight. The pattern evolves a lot more favorably to deliver a Canadian cold front. We actually had 10 kids show up tonight. Highly surprising considering last year had none. I think people are ready to be done with COVID.

  24. Always fun to see the first flakes of the season flying and perhaps a dusting here and there. Kinda gets you ready for the holidays, even though, this year, it will be weird w covid around. Btw: make sure you yell out "Nikoooooooooooo" as you are driving by SEMI!

  25. 29 years ago today, we were in the midst of one of the worst blizzards in Nebraska history. Halloween was postponed a week. Memories.

  27. We have 12 of them in the yard now... this was the first one we planted about 10 years ago as a little sapling. Needs to be trimmed this winter.

  29. Looking at the surface pressure and thickness details on the 12z GFS shows a pattern that would be solidly cold for many days. After the cold air is in place there is really nothing to get rid of it for a long time.

  30. Dropped to 34 this morning with frost. Perfect weather for Halloween. In the end this month only ended up averaging about a degree above normal IMBY.

  31. This morning is actually my first frost of the season. I’ve had two subfreezing lows before, but it was too dry and windy for frost.

  33. They are monitoring yet another disturbance down in the Caribbean Sea area. This one could be the potential down the road to break the all-time record hurricane season. BTW: ETA is the next named storm.

  34. Looks like another windy day today followed by more wind tomorrow. Wind seems to be a big part of this pattern.

  35. The overnight low here at my house was 25.9. At this time it s 29. This is the first hard freeze of this season and it shows as a lot of the trees have lost a lot of leaves over night.

  36. You can add this to the list of historic events or anomalies for 2020...Record snow cover extent for North America has been achieved this year. https://electroverse.net/north-americas-snow-cover-highest-in-recorded-history/ Edit: This article provides credence to what I commented on in the Winter outlook thread about Snow fall being more common than not across the Northern Hemisphere. Not only that, but I'd like to add that the year 1976 has been showing up over the past week in terms of records being shattered and the fact that 2020 has been eclipsing them. Interesting times my friends.

  37. Just another day living near the GOM this year...my goodness, but this pattern has been relentless down there. Preseason ideas of an active GOM have transpired quite well this past hurricane season given the LRC pattern that set up last year. This year's pattern is already shaping up like it may rival 2020 and create another active 2021 season. Wild times ahead.

  38. ICON with a preview of coming winter attractions for Sunday. Most MR guidance shows a decent LES streamer on a NW to SE trajectory forming some time between 15 and 18z Sunday mid-day. Most also want to keep it mostly SW of here, but I may get side-swiped. 3 and 6 hr increments make it impossible to know for sure. Oh well, it will surely be blustery and feel more like December. Leafs should be flying all over the place whether the snow is or not.

  39. Yeah, this color season will go down in my mind as perhaps the best I've seen in SMI. Mentioned before what a display I was getting on my daily commute along I-94 and I did finally snap a few shots last week, tho the color was best the week before especially when there was sunshine. Right now, any remaining colors are in town and/or hardy varieties that are mostly auburn, gold, or browns. There is one type of maple tho (certainly not the sugar maples) that is just now a bright red having waited to turn with the hardy trees. So you will occasionally still get a burst of good colors, surrounded by mostly bare or brown trees. It's been an awesome time and there were many shots I would have gotten if time allowed but usually I was en route somewhere and couldn't stop.

  42. Not really. The GFS still drops 850s to -7 over SEA and the ensemble mean is -6. Solid cold for this time of year. A lot is going to depend on if a continental cold front manages to come through or not for how cold it gets.

  43. @Niko I know you've had more time to keep an eye on the Sunday event. Indeed, liking the trends and seems we will have our first real encounter with "winter" 2020-21 to begin Novemberrrr!
