  7. Just shoveled the walk, went in and got my phone, and this much snow was already on the deck when I came out (the deck is grey). The path in the picture is at least a foot deep. That ground was bare yesterday. It is still snowing hard, and the wind is stronger than it was this afternoon. Picture taken at 8:45 PM CST. Picture from the south side of Ankeny, between Ankeny and Des Moines.

  16. 13"!!! at KLNK thru 6 pm. It has definitely surpassed the 13.2" from Oct 26 1997 so this will go down as the second snowiest calendar day since 1948. I will say I try to be conservative with how I measure and especially with this much snow it's hard to tell so I very well could have 13"

  17. PDX stayed below 45 today without the benefit of stratiform precip in the afternoon hours. Landmark achievement.

  18. 10" at my place now, double digits! Also back to the regular rippage after a brief "lull"

  19. Man if only this were closer. Perfect wave breaking sequence produces a ridge bridge from the Aleutians through the Arctic, with the main anticyclone centered over the Beaufort. -WPO/-EPO/-PNA/-AO/-NAO.

  20. This is easily going to go down as largest snowfall for Polk,Dallas Cty area of C.IA since the Draggin' Wagon (my mini van in that storm literally was covered with drifts) of Dec 09'. 16". This will have similar totals but without 60 mph winds and 20 mB pressure gradient across IA. Best storm I've ever gone through- in Iowa. Nothing comes close to the 28.6" and the Great Halloween Blizzard in the Twin Cities in 1991. Riding sleds down 694 to I-35 and past Metrodome = priceless.

  21. Lake effect here looks awesome! I’m terrified since it’s so hit or miss but if this verifies we’re going to have a lot of snow when all is said and done!

  22. Right now sitting at 8” in my backyard, really hoping to cash in another couple of inches over the next few hours to get to double digits! It’s going to be a close call but I think it’s going to happen.

  23. So I only have a 12 inch ruler and not a yard stick lol but it's almost perfectly getting buried so I'm probably around 11.75"

  28. Live downtown Des Moines. Just under 10 inches at midnight. Hard to find good place to measure though. Drifts 2 to 3 feet, which my little sports car didn't take kindly to as I drove to work. Luckily Iowa nice and had 3 folks shovel me out, myself included. Roads are not bad once you get to main ones. Snow covered and packed down, just those interchanges that are a b!tch. Still snowing so could get to the magic 12 inches downtown

  29. Talk about a holy sheit 18z GFS run. If that verifies there will be a lot of happy people on this forum. The parallel was also pretty solid for week 2. The EPS has me mystified. It seems to be ignoring a highly favorable MJO wave during the period the GFS suite of models is showing things getting good. My guess is we will see the EPS improve considerably tonight after the dramatic improvement in the 18z GFS ensemble.

  30. And as expected, the self-victimization and somehow turning this into a political argument. Not everything is political. Those of us who have been on here long enough know your "Fair and Balanced" routine

  31. Measuring between 8-10 so guessing 9 but it's snowing even harder than it has been all day. That southern edge just entered Cass county so hopefully wrap around really fights back.

  35. Went out at noon and measured 2" in my backyard. Had 1/2" at 1020 so it's been snowing at about an 1"/hr and the heaviest is on it's way.

  36. Sitting at 6" so far and man was it ripping earlier this morning. It has let up a bit....I'll be waiting for the heavier rates to come back up into my area. Hoping to end up with 10+ when it's all said and done!

  37. I went for a walk behind my house yesterday and i could look up the ridge of gold mountain at about 800-1000 feet elevation and it was just flocked with snow. 2-300 feet above me it was winter!!

  38. I've felt pretty great about this for the past couple days but we're golden. KOMA and KLNK could easily both sneak past 12" by this evening, going to be one we talk about for many years.
