Amazing weather today, I think it was nature's gift to me for my 59th bday. Got pretty good conditions to climb Mount Hood, although the winds at the summit were around 40mph, forecast was calling for winds in the 20s which unfortunately did not verify. Here's a photo dump from our climb, sadly my camera fogged up little bit, so all of the photos are slightly blurry.25 points

My wife passed in 2016. I just have a girlfriend, but we've been together for 6 years. She loves the snow too.19 points

I also got to see that eclipse in Wyoming, on the summit of the Grand Teton, there were maybe 20-30 people up there which is by far the most I've see on thst summit, typically it's no more than 5 people. Seeing the shadow of the eclipse move towards you is an unforgettable experience, if any of yall ever have a chance to see an eclipse ontop of a mountain, do it. Here's a few pics, which does ZERO justice for the view. Solar eclipse pics are probably the thing that looks the least like it actually does in person.18 points

Nah. I was involved with two different forums that required some kind of donation drive or squabbling over things like adverts and memberships. The bills average ~150 a month and I can cover it without any issue, so that can rule out a lot of drama. The real reason why some of the upgrades have dragged on or why @hawkstwelve doesn't have SSH access yet is that my time seems to be feast or famine, especially with a kid, a job at FAANG Co, and a side project/startup/fever dream. I still have a kanban board with the following: - recovering deleted posts from the April 2023 forum hack - merging westernwx.info forum - cleaning up storage (unlimited storage is the largest driver of costs, thats why I don't like it when Phil uploads a 40 minutes 8k iPhone video of flurries) - setting up YVR/SEA/PDX High Res WRF and local Graphcast - write a "Looking back on 10 years" post I'll get to this sooner or later.17 points

Winding down now. It was only able to accumulate to 0.8" because the snow was so wet. Still a very impressive snow shower though. Interestingly the snow was drier early in the event when it was about 36 than it is now with a temp of 33. Dry air is so crucial sometimes, and the air eventually became saturated.17 points

Spent most of the day in the Coast Range between 1000-1500 ft. I never quite get used to how drastically different the microclimates in our region can be. Completely different world today once you get to even about 700 ft there. Absolute winter wonderland with on and off snow all day and awesome orographic enhancement of these showers. I've grown pretty tired of the ultra marginal climate down at the lowest elevations and now days I just drive up a bit in elevation to find more interesting weather. Next time I move I'm really going to try to get up to at least 500 ft if not 1000 ft+. The Coast Range or SW WA Cascade foothills still at the top of my list I think.17 points

Been recharging my batteries after finals. Completely done with my CS degree and Math minor! … Assuming I passed! Absolutely gorgeous day at Dash Point earlier at low tide. Still hanging onto 70F imby. Couldn’t get to hike last summer cause of classes, so I look forward to hitting up Rainier and around Lake Crescent for the first time sooner or later.14 points

Picked up about 10-11" from the event since yesterday afternoon and our snow depth is up to 21" and annual total of 82"! 19 degrees currently with a high of 34, temp is dropping quick. Here's a photo dump from today, some pics when it was sunny and some when it was snowing. Saw a buck who still had his antlers, they likely will shed very soon.14 points

The lack of snow sucks, but I think the F grades in our climate really should be reserved for the worst of the worst. A week of bitter cold and at least a handful of snow opportunities already makes this winter (and last) infinitely better than the 2002-03 types. The grading distribution would skew pretty heavily towards D/F in this climate otherwise. Our winters are capable of being really, really bad.14 points

Madison, WI went from 70 degrees at 3pm yesterday to 11 at 7am this morning when their cold front moved through. Doesn't make it any less interesting to track our cold front here though. Based on your attitude we shouldn't get excited when Seattle sees snow since Buffalo sees feet at a time sometimes.14 points

My son was at Snoqualmie Summit today and said conditions were awesome. He also said he rescued an 8 year old boy who had accidentally skied out of bounds and went into a deep hole with a creek running underneath. He said everyone was freaking out and screaming and waiting for ski patrol to rescue the kid but jumped into action because he thought it might get worse before the ski patrol arrived. I guess the kid's parents were so thankful.13 points
