I'm soooo confused!
Can someone throw me a bone and tell me what I might expect here in McMinnville?

gonna become so watered down it's not even funny just because it's late february.
Exactly.
By the time it gets here it will be a little cooler than normal with a little snow for those that always get snow with marginal events and that's about it.
I have seen this movie a thousand times.
The good news is....spring training is here!!!

The biggest part of it is thinking about how he won’t graduate from HS until I’m 55!!!
My oldest son graduated last year when I was 55. My youngest son will graduate when I am 60.
Back when they were born I thought that would be strange but now that it's happening it feels like no big deal at all.

I live in McMinnville. We have had exactly 0.00" of snow this year. It was a bit cooler than normal for a few days back in December. WTF?
I can't think of a single positive thing to say about this absolute dud of a winter.
In my book this is the most boring winter of any since I moved here ten years ago.
Just let it end.
I know some jack@ss is going to either point out the realities of the region we live in, tell me to move, or point out some other winter that was somehow worse.
Don't be that jack@a**.
I am just venting as I shift my mindset to spring.

Bummer that even if we get a great setup in the coming weeks there will be virtually no real cold air to work with.
I give a February surprise about a 3% chance this year.
This winter is starting to feel real short and real done.
The great news though....spring training is right around the corner! Go Giants!

#rugpush
"rug push" is an awesome description. Should become a permanent thing around here when we get a reverse rug pull. It won't be used often of course but still.

I'm having DeJa'Vu all over again. Didn't we do this last night for the 00z as well? LOL.
Never ceases to be entertaining.
Thrill of the chase.

So many things we thought this winter could be which we now know it won’t be.
Did you notice how fast things flipped from all-time most epic arctic blast to 50 degree rain?
Things can flip back just as fast.

I hope the sting of another arctic rug pull diminishes quickly and you model guys start posting about whatever weather we do have coming because I am really starting to appreciate it all....not just cold and snow.

My main takeaway on this map is the insane blow torch coming up.
Either way, nature is awesome!

I notice Mr. Snowmizer was true to his word and didn't comment since earlier, and that's a shame because as far as I can tell he's the closest equivalent to my location and I keep an eye on the things he says to guage my own enthusiasm. I hope he comes back.
Why did he quit?

Please go take a break.
Rational talk needs a break but posting non stop about things that absolutely are not going to happen doesn't?

Uncertainty is off the charts for next week
"uncertainty is off the charts" is code for bust.
It's OK to say it.
A massive percent of what shows up in models beyond 48 hours busts. This one is a bust. The next one will be a bust. The one after that will be a bust. Maybe one will not bust before spring but that will be about it for this winter.
We live in that type of climate.
It's better to just know this.

I have no idea what's going on in here today and at this point I'm afraid to ask.

At the risk of sounding like a complete weenie, is there anything sadder than waking up to 45 degrees, pouring rain, and slowly but surely melting snow?
Growing up here you'd think I would be used to it, but it gets me every time.
I used to have that but someone taught me how to see the beauty in all of nature and now I enjoy it all. I still have my preferences of course but I appreciate so much more about the weather and all the changes that come with it.

You know I don't think we see a mammoth arctic blast before Christmas, but we certainly could see a modified airmass. Given our track record since December 1998, it's probably best to keep expectations within reason. I think it is reasonable to believe we see monthly means near or even colder than December 2017.
Why can't all comments/replies be this logic based? It would eliminate the emotional rollercoaster and make for a more enjoyable experience for all. Thanks for leading the way!

Looks like PDX will pull off their coldest November since 2000. They are 43.6F month to date, 2000 was 42.8F
Also, assuming today doesn’t spike to 50 at some point, they should pull off an average high of 49.9 which is their first average November high below 50 since 2000 (they pulled off a 49.5 then)
The record warm October followed by a modestly chilly November makes for an interesting month to month temp drop as well. The average high in Portland dropped 22 degrees between October and November this year. We went from an average high of 71.9 in October to 49.9 in November. Not sure if any other consecutive months in their history have seen the average high drop from the 70s to the 40s but I’d imagine it’s rare, if not unprecedented.
This is the interesting stuff I come here for! Thank you!
Now if we could somehow convince people to stop posting those 10:1 ratio snow maps. I have no idea what purpose those serve....maybe I'm missing something?

Looks like this ice storm might be slightly pulling apart as it moves inland.
