    High of 57 in Corvallis with sunshine. Doesn’t feel like winter.

    Hanoi, Vietnam at 21N latitude and sea level pulled off a 53/46 day today. Corvallis is running warmer at 54/47!

    Wonder how humid Issaquah is being immediately downwind from Lake Sammamish.

    Closest station to here down to 33. Not good.

    Still 38 down in Corvallis while SLE and EUG are in the mid-40s. Low level cold proving much more difficult to scour out in the west valley than expected. OSU has thrown in the towel and closed completely for another day.

    It’s in kind of a geographical goldilocks zone a la Cle Elum, Leavenworth, Truckee/Tahoe where it’s just far enough east of the crest to have an eastside temperature profile but far enough west that it is well outside the heart of the rainshadow. Always enjoy the drive up Highway 35 from Government Camp to the Gorge.

    NWS going with a low of 16 at PDX and 14 at HIO. Let’s see if skies can clear out earlier in the night than expected.

    Today actually marks the first time PDX has pulled off three negative departure days in a row since November. What a turnaround!

    Yeah if another January 1950 were to happen I would have to wonder how it would be handled in this region. A few days of cold and snow is one thing, weeks on end of it is a whole different animal. "Shut everything down until it melts" ain't gonna work.

    Yeah this has to be about the coldest temp I’ve ever seen precip that wasn’t snow. Wild stuff. Glad to see Corvallis area didn’t get iced as bad as I thought it would. Still glad I came up here.

    Closest station to me on the NOAA map is at 13F. Easily the coldest afternoon temp I've ever experienced in the PNW lowlands.

    Looks like some snow is starting to mix in with the sleet here.

    If the -45 at Bozeman is verified that ties the all time record and beats the January record by 9F. Insane.
