Sparse flakes starting in town. My parents in Sudden Valley said things are starting to turn white. -

January 2024 Weather in the PNW (Part II)
mtep replied to Meatyorologist's topic in West of the Rockies
None for us, thankfully! Sounds like it was a sprinkler pipe in the attic. We woke up to the fire alarm but I was pretty sure I knew what it was because the same thing happened winter of 21-22. I took a walk around the building just in case and water was rushing down four floors of balconies. -

Tiny flakes starting to stick in south Bham. Probably won't amount to much but it sure is pretty. -

I had a graupel shower around 10:30 that turned everything white but has since melted. Hoping we can squeeze a few phat flakes out on the south side of town today! -

About 2 hours ago I heard the loudest thunder that I can remember here since fall of 2019. Honestly couldn't even remember the last time I had heard any here between now and then. We got about 5 minutes of heavy/slushy hail that turned everything white and then BOOM. My girlfriend said she was able to see the lightning on the east side of town. A fellow ex-Texan coworker and I had a good giggle thinking back on what hail meant there! -
The remnants from last night. Was a snow globe when I went to bed at 4. Surprised people didnt score more last night with the way the roads were around Everett and Marysville-Stanwood. I guess a quick melt is to be expected this time of year. 37 and wet snow now. Also bonus vid from the drive home from Seatac last night. 20230228_015425.mp4

Girlfriend and I made it to Seatac from ABQ around 11. The drive back to Bham was white knuckle for the majority of the trip. The snow around Everett and then north of Marysville around Randy was f****** insane. Easily the worst visibility ive experienced as far as highway driving in the snow goes. I usually actually enjoy driving in snow but its less fun at night when its coming down like that. 34 at home right now and mostly dry. Wasnt as much snow in the Chuckanut pass as i thought there would be. Hopefully we get at least dusting over the next few hours.

I remembered you mentioning living in the high desert as a kid. Couldnt remember if it was NM or UT. This was our first time visiting the area and certainly wont be the last. The diversity of landscapes in such a relatively small space was incredible. Valles Caldera/the whole Jemez Mts drive was a big highlight along with the Tsankawi site. Also had no idea about the history of Los Alamos before driving through. Was definitely not expecting a government checkpoint heading up into the park lol.
