  1. I think that it’s both, and the two aspects of brokenness reinforce each other.
  2. BuT tHe MoDeLs OnLy PuLl ThE rUg On CoLd, NeVeR tOrChInG!
  3. Actually one of the reasons I wasn’t crazy about his candidacy and chose to vote for someone else in that primary.
  4. Just like German fascists publicized every last violent crime committed by a Jew in the greatest detail, to give the impression that the Jews represented a criminal threat overall, American Christian Fascists publicize every last violent crime committed by an illegal immigrant. This, even though such immigrants are not a major contributor to violent crime overall. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/undocumented-immigrants-are-half-as-likely-to-be-arrested-for-violent-crimes-as-u-s-born-citizens/
  5. BC is already doing drought contingency planning for this summer.
  6. Really coming down out there tonight. 0.78" since midnight, most of that since sunset.
  7. I have found bauxite (aluminum ore) in the Tualatin Mountains (a.k.a. West Hills). Bauxite only forms in tropical to warm subtropical conditions.
  8. I made exactly two posts about your downvote proclivity today. One was a prediction of an impending downvote, and the other was amusement after the prediction proved itself correct. Neither was a complaint.
  9. Hang in there! Only a few days till shorts weather!
  10. Downvote or troll react from Jesse coming in 3… 2…
  11. They average about as much snowfall per year as Buffalo, NY! (But conditions between storms tend to be significantly milder, at least in the daytime, allowing for much melting and compaction between snowfalls. In addition, it is much sunnier overall.)
  12. A notch cooler than when I last checked, yet still lots of 70-burgers all the way up into southern BC. Sorry, Andrew and Jesse.
  13. It’s going to torch, and your whining about it is not going to change it. Cheers!
  14. Sunday and Monday look to be the best days for 70-burgers in about a week. Maybe even some mid-70’s!
  15. E.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Da_Lat#Climate .
  16. It’s not a true top-tier torch, though. No 80-burgers being modelled like in some of the March best torches in historical records. (Just treating torching like some here treat cold snaps.)
  17. Vietnam does have some highland areas where it is possible to escape the heat that afflicts much of the country. Not sure if your schedule will allow a visit to them. There is (was?) a Vietnamese-American contributor here who posted some pics from the Vietnam highlands once.
  18. Brussels, Belgium (7,835 kilometres away) is the far-away foreign place with temperatures most similar to Vancouver International Airport (view comparison). https://weatherspark.com/y/145203/Average-Weather-at-Vancouver-International-Airport-Canada-Year-Round Though I think it strange they characterize our winters as “very cold” despite temperatures usually being above freezing.
  19. Yes, that’s terrible. And it is likely to provoke a new wave of immigration from Haiti to the USA. Then again, there are corpses in the street with nobody to take them away promptly in Gaza yet many (and no, I am not saying that you are one of them) seem to think that is just legitimate foreign policy by a valued ally. So as usual the standards for what is acceptable or not are subjective and thoroughly politicized.
  20. That term is used by righties to refer to all undocumented immigrants. Not, say, rich people who cheat on their taxes. Or supporters of insurrectionist politics. Even though tax fraud and insurrection are also illegal acts. Only people who don’t look White get the “illegal” moniker attached to them for their lawbreaking. I am certain this is pure coincidence and has nothing to do with any legacy of racism in the USA. /sarc
  21. Heard a clap of thunder about 20 minutes ago during a heavy rain squall.
  22. Prediction: Florida may be in play this year. At least, the vote will be closer than it has been in recent elections. Reason? Spillover effect from this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/01/05/florida-abortion-amendment-signatures/
