  1. Robert based everything largely from his own perceptions and reading. Like many private researchers, he wasn't perfect but Robert brought people's attention to the change in the air, so to speak, that was coming literally decades before we began to see them. He was researching in the early and mid 90's. His global view was a reminder to me that what happens here, is only a small part of a very big picture that reaches out in the solar system and our planet is so heavily affected by that bright thing in the sky! I'm going to miss his posts.
  2. Really interested in this topic as after the trouble the Southern Plains got into last year, we are all experiencing some elevated anxiety. I’m worried about another Texas freeze and shut down.
  3. A young golfers golf ball was struck by lightning a split second after leaving the tee. This is why you don’t golf in the rain.
  4. No. Tx. Receiving heavy rain from the tail of the front. Very unusual to receive this sort of Fall like sweeping front in mid July. Heavy rain and thunder at this hour.
  5. D**n!!!! “On Friday, the temperature at Death Valley soared to 130 degrees, breaking the previous daily record high of 129 set back in 1913, according to the National Weather Service. This reading comes within 4 degrees of the all-time world record of 134 F set there in 1913. The 134-degree mark happens to be the world record for the highest temperature ever measured on Earth.” -Accuweather.com
  6. I enjoyed the site as I found a lot of global weather information I would never have read. He also encouraged people to join in and many appreciated the community feeling. If nothing else Robert brought people into the conversation and enjoyed the dialogue.
  7. You get all the fun. I just had one lone cloud sprinkle on me for 5 minutes. I feel neglected.
  8. It’s just so odd Tom. Even stranger than last summer. We’ll have a high of 74* tomorrow! Crazy for us in July. No rain with it but a 50% chance Sunday evening. I’m very concerned about our coming winter. Keep watching this Southern Plains outlook. I pass it on to the City Fleet Manager to hopefully help them prepare.
  9. The next 10 days in No Tx will see slightly below average temps. 90-95* Rain chances this week. Definitely different for us mid July. What surprises will August bring? Not your typical Texas summer for sure. Tom, No Tx can pass on last winters break down. We were, and still are not, prepared to repeat. But Mother Nature will have her way. The Southern Plains are in the cross hairs again. I’m passing the word to prepare but I’m not sure how many are listening. I’m gathering what I need to stay warm and have some light at night when Ercot fails us. I’ve passed the word to the City Fleet Manager, my husband, so Ft Worth will be better prepared. Keep me abreast. I’ll try to get word to authorities down here. Thanks
  10. Horrific. I have seen wildfires here literally travel faster than the Fire Chief could get ahead of it to set up a staging area. My heart just goes out to everyone out west. Rancher and Farmers are really struggling. Food will go up like crazy. Pray for rain folks.
  11. Would someone weigh into Texas/Okla for the next few weeks please ? Very different here plus we have an early hurricane season.
  12. Well, we’re in the dog days of summer. Same ol same ol. However, we aren’t all THAT consistent! Looks like someone didn’t want to be bothered.
  13. His site admin said he would keep the site up. I think he is wanting more to read his work and see his thoughts verified in time.
  14. Texas is about to join the Midwest rain club. 40% chance today but all next week chances rise to 80%+ with temps in the 80’s. I think this pattern is going to be our summer. The yards love it but the trade off is the nightmare out west. we’re adapted to it. Not the Pacific. They really need that rain.
  15. Ice Age Now Blog Author author of Not By Fire But By Ice. It is with a heavy heart that I must make this post. I just learned that our friend Robert Felix has passed away on June 10th. He was a great friend and brought so many of us together. Nothing that I can write here will be able to do justice to the person that has been part of our lives for so many years. I am thankful that I was able to meet him and his wife over the Memorial Day weekend. Please take a moment to share your memories of our friend and I will do my best to get the comments approved for everyone to see. Thank you so much for being part of this site over the years. I know Robert enjoyed being able to share this thoughts and communicate with everyone here. RIP my friend. I will miss you. Sincerely, Dan – Your long time friend and site admin.
  16. Some extraordinary images. The Midwest and southern plains are in for an interesting summer.
  17. It’s really hard to watch the western wildfires. My uncle surveyed some of the 1st roads into the Plumas Forest and brought back a species of prehistoric fern thought extinct. Now these forests are in danger. Texas would gladly take a normal summer to spare them. Texas is looking to have an unseasonably cool week next week with rain in the forecast. Just more of this 1200 yr drought cycle. Welcomed rain but it comes with a high price to others.
  18. Texas is looking forward to an unseasonably cool week next week with rain in the forecast. Yes!!
  19. A normal summer week ahead then another cold front. Mid to high 90’s Sunny. But, Weird summer. Something tells me this coming winter will be a repeat of last winters Texas deep freeze.
  20. I’m hoping that predictions of another bitter snowy or icy nightmare doesn’t materialize for No Tx. Last years week without electricity and 37* in the house was not fun. I spent 75% of it alone as my husband was busy keeping the City Emergency Services on their feet. However, I think my hopes will be dashed and I’m preparing. Including solar lamps and cell charger. Converting my fireplace away from an electric start. This new phase is not good for the southern third of the nation as we are not adapted to it in a hundred ways. But it is what it is and I’m getting ready. Keep me informed. I’d appreciate it. And yes, it’s been an odd summer here so far.
  21. You guys have my sympathy. It’s practically a cold wave here at 98* at 5pm. Humidity 34% Feels like 103*. Temps will lower Saturday a few degrees. But Texas humidity is what it is. Hang in there.
  22. I’m going to need to buy heated longjohns if this coming winter repeats last winters. 37* in my house was not acceptable!! I’m looking into my gas fireplace being adapted to a no electric start. Can’t go to wood burning but I can remove the electric start method. They won’t have the Texas grid fixed by then. Heck, they can’t fix the border chaos!!
  23. Oh I hold him responsible. You bet.
  24. Has nothing to do with Austin. The Grid Gods have been warned for years. We needed another big plant. ERCOT didn’t propose another power plant. The signs were there 20 yrs ago.
  25. Texas is bracing for yet another collapse of the grid. no one is talking about the gorilla in the room. So many people moving here and building meanwhile power plants are not building and take a very long time to bring online. So, they have the gall to lay it all on us and our usage. Elderly can’t do this. Heart patients, etc. Really? Our fault?? We’ll be hitting 100*. So, if you don’t hear from me again, it’s been swell.
