  1. I'm sorry Tom, but I don't like that outlook for Texas. Can I have another one ?! Drier and Warmer than average. Really not wanted around here. ***** Don't Forget To Post Your Rain Totals in the Separate Thread as We Near the Close of 2019 *****S http://theweatherforums.com/index.php/topic/2044-2019-rain-totals-for-great-lakes-great-plains/
  2. It's a rough go south and is moving slow. Sitting over Houston. I've had overcast skies 90% of the day. A little sun breaking out right now but they've upgraded our rain tonight to 50% chance. A 1/2" is likely all I'll get this far North and West. Currently 84* DP 69* Humidity 59%
  3. Houston and parts east and northeast are really struggling. Many evacuations, even hospitals are being evacuated. 2' of rain in Houston, more east and northeast. Like Dorian, it hasn't moved fast.
  4. This is the second in two years. Interesting. ______________________ Astronomers around the world are monitoring an interstellar comet hurtling through the solar system, known for the moment as C/2019 Q4. It’s the second time in less than two years that they’ve seen an object from another star swing through our cosmic neighborhood. The first time around, the discovery kicked off a worldwide sprint to inspect the object before it got away. It was mysterious enough that some astronomers even began to consider whether it was dispatched by an advanced alien civilization. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/09/interstellar-comet-oumuamua/598204/
  5. Some areas in SE Texas received 4 ft. of rain. This is one of the worst Tropical storms they've had. All of east Texas will receive heavy rain. The DFW area is a bit west to get the heavy stuff, but we'll receive up to an inch through Friday. Temps will drop into the high 80's. It's an ugly storm system.
  6. It's looking like TS Imelda will bring south Texas 5-10" of rain. While east of Dallas will get 3-4' or so. The DFW area still see's .50-1" Temps will be in the high 80's Thurs - Sat, the several days in the low 90's and another chance of rain in a week and high 80's. So, the weather has turned and we will be on our way to Fall. That's how it works down here. One good TS or Hurricane in September and we're on the downhill slide.
  7. You’re getting one. Strong circulation barreling over Houston into NE Texas. I’ll get rain but only perhaps ,50”.
  8. This tropical system is showing signs of circulation, which raises concern considering we’re at the height of hurricane season and the Gulf water is very warm. While it’s not expected to persist long enough over open water to become a hurricane, it is certain to deposit a great deal of water in southeast Texas as it moves inland. Flood Watches have been posted and some locations could see as much as 6 to 8 inches of rain in the Houston and Galveston areas. ....NBC We will see .50” rain in DFW. Up to 5” in East Texas on Thurs/Fri Finally, Some rain !!
  9. Speaking strictly for Texas...........Stinks. We'll break out the shorts and light weight hoodies for winter.
  10. Texas is seeing a strong low move inland over Houston and further into the state. This is always a good sign for us that the heat is over. Arizona gets their Monsoons, we get Tropical Lows or Hurricanes. This is great news for us.
  11. I think the difference is hedging their bet! Okla and Tx look like our usual. Cold sometimes Cool sometimes Possible shorts for Christmas, maybe not Sometimes wet Sometimes dry Otherwise average winter conditions. Yeah,....they're hedging.
  12. I may as well find a hobby. Winter will be unexceptional here. Could mail it in.
  13. Yes, let's be sure to recruit warriors with climate change sensitivity. ........you can't fix stupid. Calling on British industry to lead the way on developing new sources of energy for the military, he added: “The challenge, and genuine commercial opportunity, is to aim high and lead the world in the development of military equipment which is not only battle-winning but also environmentally sustainable. "That gives the British Army considerable operational benefits, such as reducing our logistical drag, and also puts the Army … on the right side of the environmental argument, especially in the eyes of that next generation of recruits that increasingly make career decisions based on a prospective employer’s environmental credentials.” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/09/13/army-could-phase-fossil-fuels-attract-ecofriendly-recruits-senior/
  14. That's exactly why I was so worried about that second one that threatened the Bahamas. Not only have the islands been scoured, but land mass was lost. When it is rebuilt, it won't be the same. My former business partner spent a lot of time there sailing. I'm sure he's devastated. Paradise was lost Edit: TS Humberto gave the Bahamas 60 mph winds and lashed them with rain. This slowed rescue work.
  15. Liked that wind Phil. It's been calm here for so long, I almost forgot how nice wind storms were. We've been in the doldrums lately. Just hoping the weather will get interesting down here. Any forecast for Texas this Fall and Winter ?
  16. I just don't recall hearing much regarding quakes in NC and I've followed US quakes a long time. East coast quakes are pretty few and far between. Actually, I like Arkansas. Nice place to get away from all the city clutter.
  17. While North Texas will see temps at or near 98* through Wednesday, fear not, a front will begin to break the heat. Temps Thursday will see a high of 90* and chances of rain Wed. And Thurs. it's possible our high 90's days are over or near over. That's pretty normal for us. With rain on the horizon Thursday and Friday, I feel a lot better about Fall being near. Having experience high 90's into Oct. in the past and very warm Christmases....I'll take this change.
  18. Yes, but if you're the ones hit, a world view isn't important. And hurricane season isn't over. Hopefully, paths will change and give the Bahamas a break.
  19. They received heavy rain and wind in the midsts of a major recovery. I'd say it qualifies as a problem. The place is absolutely flattened.
  20. Six small earthquakes hit near the Great Smokies. This is a bit out of the norm. 5.7 and some 4's https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/#%7B%22autoUpdate%22%3A%5B%5D%2C%22basemap%22%3A%22terrain%22%2C%22feed%22%3A%221568382520911%22%2C%22listFormat%22%3A%22default%22%2C%22mapposition%22%3A%5B%5B34.99625375979014%2C-84.2596435546875%5D%2C%5B36.38370163392931%2C-83.2049560546875%5D%5D%2C%22overlays%22%3A%5B%22plates%22%5D%2C%22restrictListToMap%22%3A%5B%22restrictListToMap%22%5D%2C%22search%22%3A%7B%22id%22%3A%221568382520911%22%2C%22name%22%3A%22Search%20Results%22%2C%22isSearch%22%3Atrue%2C%22params%22%3A%7B%22starttime%22%3A%222019-09-06%2000%3A00%3A00%22%2C%22endtime%22%3A%222019-09-13%2023%3A59%3A59%22%2C%22maxlatitude%22%3A36.489%2C%22minlatitude%22%3A34.196%2C%22maxlongitude%22%3A-79.453%2C%22minlongitude%22%3A-85.825%2C%22minmagnitude%22%3A0%2C%22orderby%22%3A%22time%22%7D%7D%2C%22sort%22%3A%22newest%22%2C%22timezone%22%3A%22utc%22%2C%22viewModes%22%3A%5B%22map%22%2C%22list%22%2C%22settings%22%5D%2C%22event%22%3Anull%7D https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/state/north-carolina/article235055107.html
  21. Hurricane Humberto sat stationary and scoured the Bahamas. It don't know what's the cause of this, but the Bahamas will be a blank island. They'll have to start all over. "Humberto had maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour (85 km per hour) with higher gusts, and was expected to become a hurricane by Sunday night, the Miami-based NHC said on Saturday. It barely moved during Saturday morning, the NHC said, and was located about 30 miles (45 km) east-northeast of Great Abaco Island. It was forecast to resume a slow motion toward the northwest and north later in the day. Forecasters said the storm could drop up to six inches (15.24 cm) of rain in some areas but that it was not expected to produce significant storm surge in the northwestern Bahamas, which were hammered earlier this month by Hurricane Dorian. Humberto could, however, hamper relief efforts in the area where thousands of structures were flattened and 70,000 people were left needing shelter, food and water and medical aid." https://www.reuters.com/article/us-storm-dorian/tropical-storm-humberto-lashes-bahamas-seen-becoming-hurricane-idUSKBN1VZ0CI
