  1. I think we can all handle an average summer. The month in 2018 of 100+ was rough. I mean, we hit 110*! We typically get a few days, then back below 100*. It was just not acceptable as far as I'm concerned last summer. Some rain somewhere mid summer is good and temps
  2. Looks quite typical for Texas. Would anyone like to weigh in on whether it will be average or above average heat ? We would all like to see a summer that doesn't blister us for a month. Thanks.
  3. Valentin Zhiganov, 44, shot the incredible pictures of the rare optical illusion near his home city of Apatity in Murmansk Oblast, Russia in temperatures of minus 30 degree Celsius. His images show the aurora – also known as ‘light pillars’ – mixing with the lights of the city while the local power plant looms in the background. 4. I just learned how lucky i was early this morning. The storm passed over at 4:30-5 am. We had 80mph winds, but just east of us, 20-25 mi., the storm picked up and hit 109 mph. That would have trashed the place. I feel very fortunate.
  5. After 78 mph winds t his morning, we've calmed down to 30 mph gusts and 20 constant wind. Temps hit 79* I have no idea how much rain I got because it was blowing so hard it didn't go into the collector. As such, it freakin' poured. Power is out of about half the county. I got lucky this time, but lightning was various shades of orange. I have no idea what that means, but it was nasty! By the way, I was out in the tail end of it at 5:30 am trying to find my trash can! Found it, along with a number of other neighbors and their trash cans A good time was had by all.
  6. In April 2015, Nepal -- and especially the region around the capital city, Kathmandu -- was struck by a powerful tremor. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 destroyed entire villages, traffic routes and cultural monuments, with a death toll of some 9,000. However, the country may still face the threat of much stronger earthquakes with a magnitude of 8 or more. This is the conclusion reached by a group of earth scientists from ETH Zurich based on a new model of the collision zone between the Indian and Eurasian Plates in the vicinity of the Himalayas. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/01/190116115518.htm
  7. While this is all in quantum computing, it's a remarkable step toward the real thing. ________________________ Lead researcher Dr Gordey Lesovik, of Moscow’s Laboratory of the Physics of Quantum Information, said: “We have artificially created a state that evolves in a direction opposite to that of the thermodynamic arrow of time.” His team used a rudimentary quantum computer, which carries information on subatomic particles. He hopes their findings, in journal Scientific Reports, will help improve processing power. https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/8624077/time-machine-experiment-quantum-physics-electrons/
  8. 78 mph winds this morning. This thing on the radar blew up as it roared across west Texas. On the radar at 5am this morning the leading line was a beautiful bow and looked like a wildfire fire line. Brilliant red on the edge and trailing strands of yellow blowing back behind it. This boring little line of nothing rain in eastern New Mexico copped an attitude and plowed across Texas. It's 53*. Going up to upper 60's. No total on the rain yet.
  9. The last 15 years our nighttime severe storms have been far more common than daytime. Little to no hail, and fewer tornados. I grew up with them bouncing all around me. Spent more than my share of severe storms in a small closet.....till I said to hell with it, " I want to watch the show!" I've been watching ever since. I've seen the entire horizon turn a greenish black, almost a black-olive. Looked like the apocalypse. And baseball sized hail fell out of it with 75 mph winds. Amazing, but I'll pass on any more. It's just that living here all these decades, it's clear to me our storm patter has changed.
  10. Foggy here too last 2 days. Our rain event....e-vent....has turned into a big bust. They hype it up. 2" of rain, oh yeah. Oh, no. We should see ( if lucky) .25" of rain in a quickee rain event. It'll blow through tonight in a line that's been sitting out west raining on our neighbors. Then, no rain forecast for 10 days. Temps between 60* and 40*. Swell.
  11. Interesting stuff. In all these images, has there been anything suspicious in your estimation as in ancient civilization? I have maintained, since before it was popular, that has life on it that would be able to be ID'd as,life as we know it. But I do agree that water was more plentiful in their distant past. Something happened to change the planet in a massive way.
  12. I'd buy it here too. The moisture in the air has been high for at east 16 months. Besides, if the faucet dries up in June, we'llbe complaining. Our rain this week continues to lurk just west of us. Now they're saying it will arrive by 6 am and rain 2 days. I think we'll have But it's still chilly. 51* tonight with increasing humidity.
  13. It's been a long time since Texas had the tornado alley capital title. We get them, but it's very different now. But I recall living most of my life with the threat of these annually. I've stood in the back yard and watched them bounce over me. Looked up into the center of the vortex. I've stood between 2 as they passed North and South of me, and had one come close to the ground just over my home twisting a mesquite tree like a pretzel. Numerous close calls. There's nothing you can do to survive them but get underground. Some people build reinforced saferooms above ground, but they are killing machines, nothing short of that. So, any opinions as to why we are seeing tornado alley shift NE and E ?
  14. Hard to say. If it comes over 3 days we won't. But good grief we've had a lot of rain since Jan. 2018. Over 62" last year when normal is about half of that. Don't tell me that things aren't seriously messed up.
  15. The rain has been lurking out west all afternoon. I suppose it will finally drift east. We should see about 2" out of this. When I think of the amount of rain we've received since Ja. Of 2018 I'm gob smacked. With all the moisture in the center of the country all we need is lingering deep cold to see that ice age.
  16. Just came in from cutting back an old rose bush. Began to sprinkle and it got chilly. 51*. We have some mild severe storms out west coming this way and about 3 days of rain ahead. Springs careening around the corner down here !
  17. We'll see 61* today. Our front blew through yesterday. Overcast and calm. We have a 50% or better chance of rain for the next 3 days. That gives me just enough time today to finish up some spring yardwork.....yes, spring.its comin'. Chilly weather isnt over as we will have lows in the upper 30's in that rain. But get you yard tools sharpiened, it's almost spring.
  18. 79* in Crazy Town, Tx ! Got up to 84* in the house and had to turn the a/c on for a brief spurt as it was so miserable. High chance of about 1/2" of rain tonight and more on Mon through Wed. Temps will be slowly dropping but only into the 50's. Everyone is getting the Spring bug bites right now. Enjoy the ice flows. All we have is wind, dust, and pollen. Half sick from Mt. cedar allergies tonight.
  19. Were at 41* at 8:30 this morning moving up to 54* Tomorrow we will see 72* so the deep cold is rapidly moving away. The weekend will hit 74 on Saturday. I can really feel the change in the house at this early hour. Texans don't tend to do cold. We do hot. We B**** about it, but were here for a reason and our heat keeps many cool weather fans at bay! All that said, our cold snaps aren't over I'm sure.
  20. Water and some level of life usually go hand in hand. I hope I live to hear the degree of life that may have existed on Mars. The planet likely lost its atmosphere due to a catastrophic occurrance of some kind. All this information under a tight lid is not helping. If anything, it creates conspiracy BS that just gets in the way of facts.
  21. I just want to say that after a low in the 20's....AGAIN..... tonight, we'll begin to warm up! Saturday we'll be boppin' around in 74* and sunshine!
  22. Una Mas !!! Just one more night in the 20's and we begin to warm up to something more civil. Last night was 21*. Just 1* above the record. Tomorrow we'll hit 55* Low 42* Then 69* Thursday 74* Friday! ....................I may break out the wine! 74* Saturday. Yeah baby!
