Took an extra long walk this afternoon to soak up the sights...the orange sunset over snow-covered sidewalks, roads, tress and grass. The last week has been pretty incredible by most standards, and I will be sad to see the snow wash away as quickly as it arrived. I know our Seattle friends are tired of hearing it, but it has honestly been one of the most memorable events of my 31 short years on this earth. And if it sounds like I'm being too sentimental about this, it's because I am! I've been stricken with the curse of being emotionally invested in weather. Even so, I'm still amazed by the little microclimate God built for us here - The Gorge is a fascinating study in geography and meteorology and occasionally delivers amazing surprises. Thanks to it, we've enjoyed one of the longest stretches of snow cover in quite some time. As the sun set late this afternoon over town, disappointment washed over me knowing what is to come. I hate freezing rain with every fiber of my being, and I hope you all will be safe and make good decisions when traveling tomorrow. After all, I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on what else this little corner of earth has in store for us this winter and beyond. Cheers y'all! It's been a fun couple of months! More to come!!!

I imagine we will have plenty of parking-lot piles and road-shoulder burms that will stick around for a few days...depending on the longevity of the warm rain. Not that it will be all that comforting to see them stick around...rather, it will just be a reminder of what once was. I remember the Lake Oswego Alberton's parking lot still had respectably large piles of snow hanging around in January 2009.

Took another walk around parts of Downtown, the Waterfront and South Waterfront area today. The overcast skies add a whole other layer/dynamic to this. With a brisk breeze from the east, overcast skies, 8 inches of snow everywhere, and bitter temperatures - it doesn't feel like Portland at all. It feels positively arctic. It really reminds me of being a kid in the 90's and the cold blasts we had back then, just in awe of mother nature's beauty. It's been a real treat having this stuff hang around so long, and I feel pretty lucky to have lived through this. If you can't tell: I'M ENJOYING THIS!!!

I think everyone (in PDX metro) is simply trying to soak in the events of the last 24 hours. Also, I'm not sure if anything that models show will be able to live up to what happened here last night. I'm okay with that. The only thing that would top this off would be a region wide event so our mid-valley and Puget Sound friends could enjoy it with us.

Still in disbelief about what just happened in Portland. Did some "nature" walks around downtown and the waterfront...unreal sights! To top it off, I haven't even looked at a model in 18-24 hours. Lol. Doesn't sound like I'm missing much though. For now, it will be nice to enjoy the snow for a couple more days!
