  1. Got on the first TOR warned storm in Southern Iowa. Tough to keep up with but got these shots in SE Warren County/SW Marion. Looking north from Melcher-Dallas
  2. They're probably all too busy geeking out (not what I want to say but that's the PG version) for the Central Iowa NWA conference coming up. I took a quick look at La crosse and Quad Cities, that's all I want is some details in the discussion. And Des Moines took til 421AM to write that crap? Come on! I call in my severe reports when I am chasing, but damnit they are becoming so annoying I really don't want to help them out. But, I will, because it's not about them I suppose.
  3. Absolutely shithousery from Des Moines on the discussion. Don't even want to post it, but they should be ashamed of their lack of interest/details/analysis. More than half the posters here could post something way better than that discussion. I hope they read this, and respond. What a joke. For a so called detailed discussion, it lacked both details and discussion. Another government job where they get no reprimand for absolute bare minimum done. Rant over. Hope Des Moines gets pounded all weekend long, not for my love of snow, but for them to feel ashamed for their lack of details. They did update the grids this AM. For RAIN. And Rain only. The grass is white and has been snowing for hours. Okay, now rant over!
  4. Seems about right. Maybe change the 1 to a 0 though
  5. Advisory for Des Moines. But warnings to east and west on 80. Including Omaha. Des Moines and their way or the highway strikes again. Warm bias bastards. I hope Des Moines gets pummeled and they get called out.
  6. Nws offices were told to cover their asses. Typical of the current state of our leadership in government. CYA, or better just pretend you're invisibly shaking hands with someone on stage. This government and their leadership need help. 1 to 8 inches sounds like what every woman hears on a first date too. Sorry, not sorry. ToastedRavs, a bit toasted and a bit salty on this Monday night. Lol.
  7. I'm guessing highest will be from Winterset up 169 or 17 up to Webster County. Radar was lit up like a Christmas tree. Dallas, Boone, Story and Hamilton counties probably won out on this one, based on watching the radar. Of course this all depends on accurate measurements. See too many people that are not doing it properly, i.e. on their driveway or deck etc...
  8. Easily approaching 1.5"/hr, maybe even more with sadly the last main band about to push through DSM. Hoping can still get some wrap around for both us and for shafted Omaha!
  9. Worth sitting through the slopfest to get rates and flakes like this. Finally made it to pound town (any Brits get that joke?) Here's to hoping the rates last!
  10. Finally switched to ALL snow in Des Moines. Huge flakes too.. .took 4 hours too long but now time to make up for that slowest!
  11. Mix of sleet and snow in downtown Des Moines as it started, with more sleet than snow. Switching more to about 70% snow now after a few minutes
  12. Canadian holding steady for Nebraska and western half of Iowa folks out to 30 hours. Seems to be consistent with that SE tweak from the 12z model runs that I believe Hawks was mentioning
  13. Living from model to model won't do anyone any good for their mental health, especially with the NAM. I should be excited or ecstatic about this run of NAM for Des Moines area, yet, I'll take it with a mountain of salt. Perhaps that salt turns into a mountain of snow, but not banking on it after one good run. Neither should any Omaha people just bc one bad run. Hard to do, I know, but have faith. Let's share the wealth as much as we can with this one!
  14. Bars closing early tonight in Valley Junction area of West Des Moines sadly. But did manage to get a quick video and a few pics. Roughly 4- to 4.5" on ground. So about 2 to 2.5" already so not a bad start. Very picturesque and roads just snow packed. Easy driving so far before the wind kicks up overnight 20221221_191214.mp4
  15. Snow has started in Des Moines; a few hours early. Already about 3/4" of an inch in about an hour. Not bad start to it all at all. Keep it coming! Good luck everyone!
  16. My understanding and pretty confident that the amount of snow has absolutely no effect in warnings. Only 35mph winds with vis less than or equal to 1/4 mile for 3 consecutive hours. That's what certifies a blizzard
  17. Des Moines out with discussion but no upgrades to any sort of warning. A bit surprising, as they were pro active with watch but holding back on issuing warnings. And not even a wind chill warning like other offices. Smdh
  18. Remember that is 10:1 ratios; so most will have better ratios than that, save for the wind fragmenting the flakes as they fall. But 12 to 15 to 1 is more likely; with some sweet spots closer to 20
  19. I laugh at people really calling it a bust when most, if not all, are 1. Guaranteed a white Christmas. 2. Will see at least 2-4" of snow. 3. The wind will make it wild regardless of the total snow, and 4. Just how many think or thought we would see 12 to 24" of snow. Speaking more towards us in the MO and MS River valley area (IA, KS, NE, MO etc..) Enjoy it; it's going to be a fun sight to see; even if you "just" get 2 to 4".
  20. Oz Canadian has -30s for much of central and eastern Iowa for Friday's mins. I'd love to see it, but doubt it comes to fruition. Teens and a 20 below here or there likely, but that would be city records galore if that comes true. State record is -47 I believe
  21. Stepped outside to try and take measurements. Anywhere from 12.5 to 14 in spots just SW of Des Moines. Will call it 13.3 and thank my lucky stars! Spread the wealth storm for the forum in early February, hopefully after I get back from watching USA soccer, outdoors in St. Paul on Groundhog day!️
  22. Took a stroll through downtown Des Moines. Coming down well. I'd say about 4.5 to 5.5 so far. Here are a few pics.
  23. If this verifies, which is highly unlikely, it'll be like when I first moved here and got 16" in Dec '09. Pivotal has my location more than 16"!❄
  24. At the onset it will be wet, but then ratios improve to 13 maybe 14 to 1 for the Des Moines area, and Kuchera takes that into account.
  25. 6z NAM finally catching up to other models as far as timing goes. At least for central Iowa
