  1. More Dense fog this morning. It cleared up by noon and was clear for about 2 hours and then between 2:30 and 3:00 the fog rolled right back in though this time it was denser on the north end of town towards the mountains. We're hoping for some good precip Friday night into the weekend. Though the official forecast has gone back and forth between snow and starting as rain and converting to snow at some point. It could be a mess.
  2. Sorry not to have posted in so long, but life has been busy. We have been having some amazing fog here for the past week ever since the rains of the middle of last week. Today the fog lasted until noon, and in some areas all day. And then right at sunset it rolled back into town. For an area that maybe gets fog once every couple of years it is nice to see it for a whole week.
  3. I am hoping the possibility for a light snow here at 7000' for Saturday night/Sunday morning holds.
  4. Simon has delivered a soft evening rain to Flagstaff, but that is it so far.
  5. We had some decent rains here in Flagstaff Friday night & Saturday, not quite as much as I was originally hoping for, but then again the roofers decided to take the day off Friday leaving us with only a partially covered roof. And now a slightly soggy living room.
  6. Last winter sure did suck. Next time I talk with one of my friends who is a geek about weather I will mention this place. I know a professional Met., but I am not sure if he would be interested.
  7. While I absolutely love the fall in Flagstaff and its surroundings, this is the time that a young man's (cough cough) fancy turns to winter and the possibility of winter storms. And with the possibility of even a weak El Nino, it could mean some good storms roll through. I don't have the skills to begin to make a winter forecast for here or any where, just my hopeful wish casting. I was looking over winter climate data for Flagstaff on a basic level, I was amazed at how much more snow we've had on average over the last 50 years than during the 50 years before that. Any thoughts about the desert southwest this winter, especially the High country around the Mogollon Rim?
  8. They have been letting the lightning caused fires that are not threatening structures burn with only minimal management up here on the mogollon rim and on the north rim. I know it is good fire management techniques but man is it still scary seeing the smoke plumes.
  9. The storm threat has left northern Arizona for a little while. :-(
  10. Amazingly we received 0.90" here in Flagstaff yesterday. The 3" of snow is melting fast.
  11. There was a big bottleneck of years with a 28 day winter dry spell here in Flagstaff, we have now reached that and are in fifth place over all with the longest winter dry spell. By Tuesday night we will be in 3rd place with the longest one in over 40 years. With no precipitation predicted for the coming week it is quite possible for us to roll into next week and hit the 2nd place one at 37 days or even the longest at 39 days. I was much happier last summer when we hit the record for wettest July monsoon.
  12. Disgustingly dry here in northern Arizona. No snow or rain since the week before Christmas.
