Well either the equipment at Charlevoix, MI's obs site is malfunctioning or something catastrophic is occuring there. Last three hourly temps: 76, 11, -12. Hell of a lake breeze!

Wow, the arctic blast mid-month on the 06z GFS means business! Edit: Sure looks like 12z isn't backing off one bit either.

Going to be hardening off my tomatoes & peppers hopefully the next week or two. My early season cool crops all germinated, albeit taking much longer than usual. This recent soaking and now sun today/tomorrow should do wonders though.

I'll take it! Hopefully the Euro is wrong for the following week though...looks cold.

58mph gust just before midnight reported at Pontiac with the passage of the arctic front! Intense squall dropped a dusting on grass and cars this morning throughout Metro Detroit. Wind chills in the single digits in the Upper Peninsula. Happy April 21st!

NAM/EURO/ICON in good agreement with clipper system with light snow accumulations on Wednesday across the Lakes. GFS further north with Canadian in the middle. Timing for my backyard looks unfavorable (late morning-afternoon) but as others have noted, the trend has been cooler for this week, so I guess another mid-day, April accumulation is possible. If only we could trade Aprils for Decembers in this sub... Edit: Also, in fantasy land news, a couple of the Euro ensemble members (12z today) hint at another clipper, on May 3rd. Yikes.

Well that's no good. Coming down moderately here in Birmingham with half inch or so on the grass now. 33 degrees according to the car thermometer.

Snow has begun here. I'm trying my best to will the heavy band northward! It should get to Metro Airport at least, getting us officially to normal snow for the season. You got any accumulation down there yet, Toledo_WX?

Anybody else living in urban/suburban areas noticing how much brighter the stars/planets are without all the factories operating & planes flying? Especially beautiful tonight.

So when does the ~500 mile shift SE happen? My guess is the 00z Saturday runs...

The next 10+ days look quite eventful in these parts. Tomorrow night's severe threat, the GFS shows no less than three potential snowfalls, and of course the grand-daddy on the Euro. I don't mind 55 & sunny but this was getting boring, hehe.

Same here, buddy. And those were my exact thoughts a couple of weeks ago. Hope I'm not one of the asymptomatic carriers, but even if I am, I feel I'm taking every precaution I can. Between work and Animal Crossing (couldn't have come at a better time!) I still feel a sense of normal. I feel for those temporarily or permanently out of work, and of course for those who do get ill. I am also glad that so far during this pandemic the stories of good will and compassion for neighbors, friends and strangers have far outweighed the bad. Let's hope that continues. Be safe all!

Won't last much longer but it is pouring snow right now. Approaching 2" on elevated surfaces.

12z guidance bringing the heavier snows (up to 3") a little further south. If it were to happen at DTW, it would put us at "normal" for the season. A glance at the long range says this will not be the last chance either.

You might be surprised by the cold hardiness of some veggies. Snap peas would need consecutive days in the teens to knock them out, for example. That being said, getting the soil consistently above 40 to germinate could be an issue.

I have the itch to plant too. Ground was not only workable but passed "the clump" test already. I put in snap peas, arugula and radish seeds today. This is likely my second earliest first planting (first was on February 28th, though I struggle to remember the year). Got the seeds in the ground just in time for our evening rain.

Canadian has been advertising something around the lakes the 11/12th for a few runs now as is 00z ICON. Worth monitoring.

I forgot to report back! I was just shy of 6". Felt like a mid-January day driving to work yesterday with all the blowing/drifting. Even saw a couple small snow whirls!

Was about to go measure when I realized the snow doesn't want to say goodbye to Macomb County just yet, rates picked back up. Here's the deck currently.
