  1. Surely the best day if groomers are your thing but off piste didn’t quite get enough new snow overnight to soften every thing up.
  2. Nice mellow morning at Crystal after last week’s powder frenzy. Hopefully, any ridging mid month is short lived!
  3. Hazard Stevens and Philemon Beecher Von Trump were the first to summit Rainier in 1870. Stevens returned to the summit in 1905 and had this to say: "I made the ascent again in 1905 and then, as likewise on my recent trip, I observed that the snow and gaciers had receded to a considerable degree since I first visited them. At the time Stevens Glacier came close up to Sluiskin Faslls. Now it is several hundred feet farther from them. The smal crater on the summit in which we slept in 1870 was filled with solid ice but in 1905 it had nearly all melted out. It may be that a succession of wet seasons will restore these glaciers to their former limits." Sure this little tasty tidbit of info may not really mean much in the big picture but still like to point it out. I know they summited in August of 1870 but not sure what month it was when he returned in 1905? The book BTW which was written in the 70's is an awesome source of the mountains history.
  4. The thing that stands out most to me that season was Miami finished #2 even though UW beat them.
  5. Wife took a picture of me this morning on our back deck sound asleep. Some new gear arrived so I figured perfect time to test it out last night! 16 for the low. Wind kicked up replicating a nice mountain like environment. 22 now.
  6. Snowing hard and sticking here in Burien.
  7. Appreciate the updates! Temp finally dropping here. Down 3 degrees in the last 5 minutes. 37F
  8. 33F dp29 .2" overnight. Flurries now. Should be interesting here as I'm just NW of KSEA.
  9. Yep, 6" of snow with a glazing of ice is tough to melt for 35F rain.
  10. It doesn't even look like KSEA gets much rain after the snow stops on Friday? Snow on the ground for Christmas??
  11. Always a great feeling walking through the snow to get firewood.
  12. Heavy wet snow all evening with 1.5" so far. A little extra elevation was key to this working out tonight.
  13. Yeah, I was playing in a basketball game at HHS in Burien during the 1990 event and the snow had not yet started by tipoff. At halftime it was snowing heavily and all wrapped up by the time the game ended. In a way I kind of feel cheated now realizing how close we came to scoring big
  14. In his video he compares the 1985/1990 maps with current modeling. Interesting.
  15. 33 in Burien with moderate snow. Solid dusting!
  16. Snapped this picture out of my window while driving through the outskirts of Ellensburg. Temps were a chilly 25F at 10:30 AM. Less than an hour later Snoqualmie Pass was at 39F.
