  1. Huge wind gusts here. Starting to snow. Really cool to watch in the streetlight! 28 degrees on Main Street. Super awesome. I can't believe it's Feb. 27 almost!! DP 16 at TTD, but lower at PDX. Does the DP go up if the wind went down?
  2. Thanks. After 8" of snow Friday I don't want a surprise ice event!
  3. Mark mentioned ZR in Corbet, OR but didn't say what happens going forward. We have it lightly in Washougal, WA too. NWS doesn't address it. Will this be an issue when the rain increases? We're 32 at sea level with an east wind and the airport (PDX) is 46 with a south wind. It's only 20 minutes away over the Columbia River! Wondering what to expect??
  4. For PDXers, this is a good video. Noon update yesterday (Friday). In the begining he gets Saturday confused with Sunday, but the "eye candy" info for next Thursday sounds awesome! https://www.facebook.com/stevepiercekoin6
  5. Storm just went through Washougal. Tons of rain! Temp dropped from 90 to 67! There was thunder and some lightening. Just had thunder that shook the whole house! Feels like I'm in the Midwest!
  6. For PDX... However, rain shadowing has proven to be an even more significant issue than previously thought as 30 to 40 knot 850 flow has lead to orographically driven precipitation. Given this lack of precipitation and the warm surface temperatures, impacts will be limited for any locations below 1000 feet and precipitation will be light enough to prevent any significant accumulations in the valley. Cancelled the winter weather advisory for the central Valley and Portland metro area for the aforementioned reasons.
  7. Heavier moisture almost to PDX... https://atmos.washington.edu/weather/radar.shtml
  8. You're right. A cold and snowy December would be awesome! I would never consider February though.
  9. The coldest months predicted at OMSI are December and February. And March is the new February.
  10. Good news if you want more winter (like me)...Mark Nelsen put away the fork and said NOT to take off your studded tires...even if you live in the lowest elevations. Cooler weather coming up late February/early March. Mentioned snow for sure at 1,000 feet. He usually doesn't talk like that. He must be in agreement with what the models are hinting at??
  11. Mark has some awesome pics from yesterday's ice storm at Crown Point in Oregon in his latest post titled "Warm south wind has arrived!" http://www.kptv.com/link/492613/fox-12-weather-blog
  12. Yes, Washougal. Don't see any snow in the street lights, but I'll keep watching. Is precip coming from the south or west? Gonna be hard to sleep!
  13. Snow has stopped out here. What an awesome 5-6 hours! Do you see more precip throughout the night? Thanks! Sure hope there's more. Can't stop watching it!
  14. Not sure if this applies to bad weather, but if you no-show your PDX-SEA flight they'll cancel your onward flight...so be sure and tell the airline (assume Alaska?) what you're doing just to avoid a problem!
  15. Hey! What happened to the 12Z RPM (ending 5am Thursday) that showed 5.5" for PDX?? Somebody's cookin' the books!
  16. What kind of precip? Too warm for snow? Didn't get much today east of PDX. What did fall the east wind swirled around pretty good! I'm hoping for one snow event that will at least cover the grass before winter is over!
  17. How can PDX be 30 and Washougal (sea level) be 18? I've never seen a difference like that before. If the airport has an east wind, we should too. Seems a bit extreme.
  18. I guess that will make Mark right. Too bad! I wish the others would be this time! Transition events usually suck when it comes to snow.
  19. Yep, Zaffino just said on TV 3" is reasonable and Hill says on his website 3-4", all before ZR.......but Nelsen says NO SNOW, just ZR. He doesn't seem to be too concerned. He seemed a bit flustered tonight on the news however.
  20. How come low pressure areas (moisture) don't come from the north where it's cold like they did all fall? What happened to the good old "northerly flow"? Anybody afraid we won't fall into another cold spell after this one like me?
  21. Thanks for the explanations. Appreciate everyone's expertise! So the arctic air is stalled? What's the prognosis?
  22. It's too warm. It's over 40 degrees in Washougal with sunshine! Really gross. Unless some magical cold air appears there's not going to be any snow. And speaking of cold air...where is it??
  23. Local PDX TV met just said T-1" for PDX tomorrow night, cold week (didn't mention east wind), snow chance Friday with colder temps behind that. Still sounds good? Or didn't he get the EURO memo??
