  1. A nice cluster of storms now in nw. Iowa moved all the way from ne. Co. last evening and may be what areas of eastern Iowa along and n. of Hwy. 30, or n. of I-80 see later today? Wish it would be moving ese.
  2. I had a tiny ray of hope yesterday that it MIGHT bring us some rainfall here next week, but it’s looking less likely today. Also appears less likely than it had for any t. storm chances this wk.end in my neck of the woods with chances remaining over northern Iowa.
  3. 2012 really sucked in a lot of places! There was widespread severe drought that year & I think it was the hottest year on record in Iowa & probably many areas!
  4. So I guess this is it for rain chances from this system? NWS point forecast dropped my rain chances this evening from 60% to 10% now. What a joke. Oh well, wasn’t really expecting much anyway, but still was hoping....!
  5. My garden really needs a drink by now since I didn’t get the recent rains you got. But the rich black Iowa soils hold moisture much better/longer than in many states.
  6. In May we had to much rainfall, now not enough! Send some of your water my way!
  7. What a beautiful day though! It’s only 80° currently with a dew of 66°. Feeling nearly perfect IMO, but perfect would be a heavy t. storm right now! lol Yesterday was the transition day with a high of 87°. The lawns are showing a hint of brown already.
  8. Yeah this summer is starting off much warmer and drier than normal, at least in parts of se. Iowa. That is opposite of what I thought it was supposed to be! To bad my place just missed all of the recent good rains and it appears I will be suffering from drought sooner than most. Folks just 3-4 miles ne. of me can’t say that since they got a 1.70” downpour 3 days ago, I think it was. If I miss the smallish chances of rain mid week I’m going to be bummed, as hot and dry wx returns! What a turnaround!
  9. Yes I’m disappointed as well. I got only 0.04” yesterday while several miles sw. and e. had downpours ranging from a half inch to over 1.50”. Quite the heat wave we’re having too. Don’t think we’ve had so many consecutive days (6 days so far, and would be 8 days if not for one cooler day) in the 90°s in awhile, tho it’s easy to forget if it’s not recorded.
  10. I sure hope we aren’t heading for very cold times, or I just might have to move to Texas!!
  11. That’s not bad for Texas. It got up to 93° here today. We’re having quite a heat wave! Heat index goes over 100° every day.
  12. Thundering a little here. I like how cells are popping up down here for a change. Was interesting to watch the cu grow taller in the last hour or two. Edit: There’s a small dome right over my place. The cell was heading for me, but somehow skipped around and blew up a heavy cell now moving toward IC. & N. Liberty area. First outflow from the sw. but now from the ne. Little if any c/g lightning though continuous incloud. At least it cooled off some. Temp hits the 90°s every day.
  13. Yes I noticed how it fell apart just before reaching CR and expected to see some interesting comments about that again. But I’m still hopeful we’ll get a heavy storm sometime this week with daily chances. There isn’t enough shear for organized convection, today at least.
  14. Is a training line of convection setting up somewhere along hwy 30? The plants are wilting in the heat of the day. I sure am hoping for some heavy rain after a somewhat drier than normal June! I thought we’re going to have a cooler summer, but June ended up near normal and July is starting off where June left off...extremely warm and tropical. This is hard on my livestock. Looking forward to a cooler regime starting next wk end !
  15. Rained only 0.18” this evening bringing my June total to 3.88”. That should lower my June average rainfall of 5.59” since 1990, just a little. This is my driest June since 2012.
  16. What a lame storm so far! A hole on the radar right overhead!
  17. I noticed how the leading bow in the line moved right along the outflow west of the Quad Cities from earlier storms. Maybe that was mentioned, but I haven’t been reading all posts yet.
  18. The warning wasn’t necessary for the outflow in my area. We’ll see how the actual storm pans out.
  19. I like how the western end is strengthening for now. Feeling great outside now. The heat was almost unbearable while I was choring! Still not finished, but wanna watch it roll in first.
  20. Nice to see an MCS already diving sse. in Mn. A number of CAMS are showing eastern IA on the western end of it later today. The SPC agrees with that scenario. At least we should get some clouds if nothing else which would help mitigate the heat. What I’m hoping is for it to hit the areas that got missed on Friday. Edit: Hopefully the instability gradient doesn’t shift to far east today and it continues due south, and doesn’t dissipate either.
  21. Wow it was hot and like a sauna here today! Both of my wx stations show a high of 95°/79° and a maximum heat index of 111°! I’ve had quite a bit higher h.i. in prior years, but there wasn’t much wind today. I don’t think the crops are adding a lot of humidity yet since they are quite small locally. Would’ve been nice to get under one of those isolated storms that popped up.
  22. Today’s MCS seemed to maintain strength much better/ longer than the one yesterday. And I’m wondering why this one dove south while yesterday’ MCS barely wanted to make the southeast turn. I guess that keeps us guessing and makes watching storms interesting!
