Just went to Safeway and they are no longer requiring masks... the sign says they are "encouraged for non-vaccinated people".    I went in with a mask on but then quickly ditched it when I did not see anyone else wearing a mask... not even the employees.     That was pretty nice.

And we got all of this nasty weather out of the way ahead of the holiday weekend.    Everything is looking up.  👍

It's sure amazing how  positive conscience thought can collectively effect a community!

A massive 0.05" for Springfield. So long rain, see y'all again in late Sept. If the city is destroyed then I guess it'll help put out the extent of the fires but the desolation will be unprecedented if we go HAM on 90F+ for 3+ months.

I think the fire crews will be a lot more careful this time instead of the stupid modern science of 'letting it burn out naturally'.   We had a small fire near Drakes Crossing earlier this spring and they didn't let that one go. Within hours it (The fire) was done.   No more being bossed by environmentalists of 'It has to burn naturrrrrrraaaaally!"  🤣🤣

Possibly, yes. That’s a pretty typical WPAC MJO pattern and manifests quite consistently under the phase 6-8 transit at this time of year. Which is precisely what we have upcoming.

I suspect we’ll diverge from 2013 more frequently as time progresses, though. That was a WPAC-centric low pass summer, while 2021 has more of an IO-IPWP low pass (though intraseasonal cycle appears dominant still, so it’s not a strong hold by any means).

Does all that help the alarm panel notify you of trouble hot spots and aid you in a lamp test?

The calm before the storm... ECMWF shows about 1.5 inches of rain here in the next 36 hours before we finally get a very well-timed break.

You know we are SO overdue for a long dry period! I can't wait to smell more smoke!!! Neither can my smoke alarms! I am SICK of the green grass.

  5. Unless your living in a rock/brainwashed by CNN or just totally wasted you'll by now have noticed for the last several years  an increase of a gradient where the storms do 90 degree turns and strike WA/BC hard but leave Oregon high and dry. It feels like we are no longer in the PNW anymore and California is going the route of the Sahara.

Is this part of global warming (either natural or manmade?) or something else?

I'm moreso speaking about the lack of cold anomalies. We had a legendary snow event in Feb, 2019 so that's not the issue at all. Has anywhere else in the PNW gone almost 1600 days since their last sub-freezing high?

Also, when people called this past winter's event up your way a "regional event" I was like...okay so what region are we in? Since we're clearly not part of the PNW according to that logic.

My sentiments exactly.  I felt with everyone 'snowed in' I had to double take what region I lived in. I guess Stayton is NOT the PNW by the logic of most on here!

Came across this on The Facebook last night from the beach. Two things struck me:

    1. The attendees probably had NO idea that atmospheric indices were flashing RED at the time for the upcoming winter, despite the warning to “WATCH FOR SIGNS”

    2. People celebrated weird sh*t back then.

Sounds like a Reddit R/No Sleep story. Watch For Signs.

I remember thinking Memorial Day weekend in 2017 was pretty close to perfect and the best one in our time here... but this one might be even better.   It was crashing on Memorial Day back in 2017 from the south.

The timing looks to be perfect this year... it starts turning nice on Friday afternoon (which has trended faster) and then its spectacular for the entire long weekend and the ridge is still building on Monday.    At least that is how it looks now.

Hopefully we aren't all fleeing fires for Memorial Day.

He admitted this year that more half of his weather enjoyment is model riding long range guidance and fantasies about verification of the coldest runs.   That is good enough for him to be pretty happy even if none of the good stuff actually happens.

Reminds me of some of the YouTube Nintendo Channels that focus more on rumors and supposed 'leaks' then actual content. Game Over Jessie is a major one where every week all he does is leaks and rumors with very little original content compared to years past.  The latest is 'BOTW 2 rumors' and it's aged pretty bad and the game isn't even announced yet other then that tiny trailer 2 years ago.  o_o

Still raining and foggy here despite very little on the radar right now... up to .75 on the day.

Yeah... pretty excited for the weekend.   Other than a short break on Wednesday afternoon it will probably rain most of the time here until Friday morning.      It will be really nice to dry out for a few days.

Wrong side of the coast range ;)

Also, we should be able to talk earnestly about drought and potential fire issues in Oregon without making wildly sensationalistic statements about major cities burning to the ground. Kind of robs the discussion of credibility IMO.

I wish the Labor Day fires agreed with that. 0_0. Hard to agree when your area is at a be ready to go fire warning.
