  1. Here is a model showing how the ground level smoke will flush out tomorrow. Smoke at higher levels in the atmosphere will be slower to move out, but they will eventually too. Smoke will concentrate in central Washington... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we could see smoke return again as soon as Thursday, again with the majority of it pouring in from BC. Though there is hope we could see more rain this weekend which could quell it all.
  2. That must feel wonderful to have lows in the 40s. The smoke helped us as well. Well below the projected highs. One day was 68F and the other 70F.
  3. It just keeps gradually getting better for the western half but absolutely horrible for the eastern half. More of the Puget Sound and Willamette Valley or Orange and Yellow. Coastal areas getting more green.
  4. What a scary set of events. It thankfully worked out so you were there at that instant to be able to get him to help. It was a blessing you were there and very lucky you just so happened to take the day off. Maybe it all came together for a reason you were there to help him. I really hope it gets better for him and your family.
  5. So believe it or not, this is improving. Improvement is happening in NW Washington, the Oly Peninsula, and Lower Mainland BC. It's funny because NW WA and the Lower Mainland were the last places the models expected to see improvement on the western side of the mountains.
  6. It's a ton of work. It's wonderful they do that, and they are lucky they are able too. We didn't have that luxury as she lived in Port Townsend, so for a few years we had paid to have people come visit her and help her with stuff, but finally she fell and it got worse and worse, so we had to take action we didn't want to take. She can't live on her own anymore. Getting old stinks and I hope it goes well for your family. 98Yrs is impressive. She's seen so much! I'm sure she has some great stories.
  7. I truly have no idea. I wish the administration would give us an answer. It was one of my favorite aspects of the site.
  8. Some rain in the forecast for Everett. What is this, fall? j/k Please, give us rain.
  9. Uhhh... I guess some improvement to the NW for Vancouver Island, Lower Mainland and Whatcom County. Spokane has improved from hazardous to unhealthy. Everyone else is still pretty bad.
  10. I sure wish I could use the REACTION BUTTONS. You'd get a cute blob with a heart right now. It has been ten days since we could use them.
  11. I hope it goes well for you. It's very difficult stuff. I am dealing with similar things with my Grandma. Moved her out of her home, had to send her to a care home, and emptying her house to sell it. Best of luck. Prayers for you if you wish.
  12. I know where this view is at, and I hope everything is okay.
  13. I don't think Wenatchee will clear up at all anytime soon. I am going to Leavenworth next weekend and with all the fire activity around them, they will probably all still be smokey. Even as we clear out, surface level smoke will still be heavy around there. Things clear out more in the Columbia Plateau but that may vary depending on BC's fires.
  14. Air quality has degraded across the entire Pacific Northwest, but thankfully it hasn't gotten as bad for most places as in years past. Mostly Moderates and Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. No reported ash fall West of the Cascade's that I could find. Conditions have improved slightly in terms of smoke for Spokane, but it still isn't good. Conditions will begin to improve tonight for the Western portions of Washington and Oregon, as well as the Lower Mainland of BC. Inland locations will need a few days, but a slight bruising of the remnants from Hurricane Hilary Clinton will help clear things out for Eastern Washington and Oregon, or at least make it much better. Here are some webcams around the region. SPOKANE, WA. COEUR D' ALENE, ID. BELLINGHAM, WA. SEATTLE, WA. VANCOUVER, WA. HOOD RIVER, OR. DAYTON, OR.
  15. SUPER underperforming today. Expected high was 83F. It is 70F in Everett. Smoke is not great, but it's not awful. Thankfully it starts to flush out tomorrow.
  16. Stay safe out there. Luckily conditions will improve after tomorrow. We've been lucky and in the green all day, though it's shifted to moderate now. I will be curious to see what its like tomorrow when we wake up.
  17. Before night fell on the Gray Fire in Spokane County, the devastation was significant to the souther portions of the city. The fire remains at 0% contained as it continues to burn through the night with these brand new photos. There is a 10% fire line so far. Medical Lake is still under evacuation orders. Also in Spokane County and partially in Pend Oreille County is Oregon Road Fire which also have Level 3 evacuations in place for over 8,000 people in this rural part of the county. It has torched 8,000 acres so far. Spokane County has declared a State of Emergency as these two major fires burn. These fires might get a light hit of rain from Hurricane Hilary's aftermath in the coming days.
  18. Major improvement in AQI for SW Oregon! Going green! Puget Sound is still good and moderate and Portland is also improving shifting from reds to yellows. We aren't out of the woods yet, as conditions will be not so great tomorrow as well, but today it stayed good for much of the western halves of our states longer than anyone expected. Unfortunately Eastern Washington and E Oregon are in some nasty circumstances with hazardous conditions in areas. BC and NW Washington, mainly Whatcom County, will see conditions degrade overnight and into tomorrow. Already conditions have gotten unhealthy and very unhealthy within the Vancouver Metro and parts of Vancouver Island. Those levels of nastiness could reach the Seattle metro at times Sunday. The plumes from the hundreds of uncontrollable fires in BC are expected to explode throughout the night and part of the day tomorrow.
  19. Things are fast degrading. The Puget Sound has gone from mostly green, to yellow. Moderate conditions.
  20. Things are soupy in Yakima. As evening approaches, the city has an AQI of 194 in downtown. Around the suburbs, some stations are reporting as bad as 235.
  21. Despite smoke get thicker at higher elevations, AQI remains good for most of Western Washington. Conditions are awful in Eastern Washington. Expect conditions to degrade overnight for the whole state and improve by Monday for most of the state except the NW corner. This gif below is a smoke plume model, not showing all the smoke, but the smoke directly tied to specific fire plumes. Screen Recording 2023-08-19 at 7.58.48 PM.mov
  22. As predicted by the models, NW Washington around Whatcom County and BC's Lower Mainland are getting the worst of it on the western half of the Cascade's. Here is a live shot at 6:24pm of Bellingham. You can see that orange glow. But worst of all are the conditions in Eastern Washington and around Spokane. Here are live cam views of downtown Spokane and Coeur d' Alene. Visibility is next to nothing.
  23. Spokane is getting the worst of the air quality right now with hazardous air quality conditions. Some more smoke has begun to flow over the Cascade's and into the western communities.
  24. Agreed. I use that map often and the site for info. Glad you like it.
