  1. Total storm total: 62 inches of snow over the last 12 days in Juneau now rainnnnnn and soupy weather… good time go to Seattle for a class lol
  2. Yep we’re at about 2 feet for this storm total. Had 2 feet last week as well. Changeover to rain tomorrow or so will make things…. Sloppy
  3. The snow continues…. A winter storm warning that’s been extended twice… here’s our back yard, you can see the hot tub cover that we had cleared off last night…
  4. It snowed a lot the last couple days. Solid overrunning event. Things are tapering down now and the town is a little bit of a mess.
  5. Couple photos from work (flight nurse) Pretty amazing what a few days of below 0f will do; the Stikine river is frozen Bonus photo of Stikine Icefield and Sunset over Puget Sound. 3 degrees in Juneau and 30something in Seattle but sunny and pretty views the whole way.
  6. Southeast Alaska is colder than South Central tonight… wonder when the last time Ketchikan was colder than Anchorage? A lot of cold air headed down to y’all from up here!
  7. Couple photos from my dog walk yesterday. Near single digit temps + wind makes it hard to pull the camera out but figured the board would be receptive. One of them shows ice forming in the harbor; another is just pretty mountains. Can see plumes of snow blowing as the wind just started to blow when I took Themis
  8. 10 degrees in Juneau! cold. Anchorage is showing 19. probably the first day southeast has been colder than south central AK all winter. north wind starting to cook in the north/south oriented channels, bleeding over to an east wind in areas sheltered from the north wind. models still flip flopping the break down of arctic high / overrunning / pattern change like they always do… likely won’t know what will happen until a day before… but looks like a good chance for a big storm. Yeehaw
  9. Downtown Juneau from the cruise ship dock as of 15 minutes ago. Love watching the ice gulleys on Mt Juneau form in winter. Later in winter its south aspect makes it not form up as easily.
  10. Good morning from Juneau! 18 degrees and no wind at the airport this AM. Sunrise will be at 840am (currently 7:27) sunset at 330pm looks like the north wind is starting to blow a little bit in the ocean channels, temps up to mid 20s where the wind is blowing. Should start seeing even cooler temps the next few days as the arctic air comes. maybe an overrunning snow event this weekend, but with these arctic high events the models always flip flop how they end / snow till the last minute…. coffee is good life is good enjoy your day
  11. I moved back to Juneau. was a good 5 year run in Everett… Oakland.. Anchorage… but good to be back home in Southeast AK. Always loved checking into the forum here in winter as usually cold/snow for PNW means chilly temps and wind here. looks to get highs into the teens weds/thurs here! Cleared up today. Pretty rare no-north-wind-clear-winter day up here. Definetly been feeling like the El Niño winters in the mid teens (2014-15? 15-16? I think?)
  12. All rain here in mid Everett. This whole event reminds me of home! Love it
  13. Man all this cold and snow forecasted would be considered a cold pattern for SE Alaska, some 900 miles away! So cool to experience this with ya guys. Off to Stevens pass to stretch my legs in the sun today. I requested to only work 2 shifts a week for the rest of the month to give me more days off to experience this awesome wx. Can always pick up more if things don't pan out
  14. 50's for me, but I don't own any sandals . On my runs I don't start wearing extra layers until it gets below 30. Stay warm by moving....
  15. A couple things I've noticed as a Northerner living amongst all y'all Southerners The roads are far more "icier" down here in WA. By this point in Juneau everything would be plowed and sanded. The packed snow just turns to a total slick mess with everyone driving on it. Have to laugh at the number of "bunker cars" that I have seen.... people driving around in snow covered car with a little "slit" of snow brushed off for them to view while driving. Kind of hilarious until I realize that I'm sharing the road with these people. I've seen one plow truck in Everett.. Probably the only one? Lol. With this cold weather a good trick is to put some silicone oil on the rubber gaskets on your car door, that way it will be easier to open and save the rubber from getting torn up. Got some good ice climbing in on Chair Peak up on Snoqualmie on Sunday. Now I'm starting to wonder if some lower elevation ice will be good to go! I'm super excited about this.
  16. I love how this forum has come alive. Good wx... good forecast!
  17. I've almost bought a snow shovel about 3 times this winter.... maybe I should actually go through with getting one...
  18. Everybody love everybody. Who cares if who supposedly backpedaled. There's some good knowledge on this forum. I'm glad that I'm now in the area and actually get to benefit from these insights.
  19. There are a lot more people down here, but shouldn't that translate to a bigger customer base? More resources?
  20. In Juneau we have year round crews trimming branches that are next to power lines. We regularly get gusts like this storm. It's totally possible. Since my move down to Everett I have been surprised at how little is done to protect the lines. Slept through this last event, whoops. Nice big sucker hole over Everett right now. Sunny with a light breeze here.
  21. This winter has felt like a summer back home in Juneau. At least there is snow up high
