Fully snowing now. Slight slushy accumulation starting on top of the greenhouse, but that's it, so far. Temp 34*. -

Cold-weather forum lurker checking in (hi all!)... Steady rain since around 9:30am is just starting to try and switch to slushy mix. Temp is 36* and falling. 500' elevation, just outside of Gorst. -
I didn't want to say anything until it was clearly a thing, but it's a thing, now: it's been snowing steadily here for the last hour, but in the last 15 minutes or so the flakes have gotten fat and fluffy. We got barely a dusting overnight but what's falling now is slowly refreshing what we lost yesterday and is beginning to clearly stick to the trees. Maybe a half inch of new stuff already.

The thing I still don't understand is the safety aspect of it. Why wouldn't you rather get yelled at for being overly cautious if the reverse could cause real damage? We all know that snow has the potential to cripple the region, especially if it's a surprise. I just don't understand the "embarassment" aspect of it when safety is at stake. I don't think I'll ever get it.

I think about this a lot. When the consequences for being wrong are so hazardous, I really don't know why you wouldn't want to err on the side of over-caution. The worst that happens if they're wrong is that people canceled plans and stocked up on bread and milk for no reason. Right? But they're still alive, at home, and uninjured, albeit maybe a bit miffed. The consequences for being wrong in the other direction--no warnings, forecast bust--are downright scary, and we've seen it play out many times.

The way people are talking about this carries weird echoes of February 2019, to me. And we got an incredible 24" that year. The forecast ahead of time was kind of downplaying it, but then it was a multi-day marathon of more and more snow. That was wild. Are there ACTUAL similarities to that pattern here, or is it just a coincidence?
