  1. Snowing thick and fast and officially sticking to all surfaces!
  2. Fully snowing now. Slight slushy accumulation starting on top of the greenhouse, but that's it, so far. Temp 34*.
  3. Cold-weather forum lurker checking in (hi all!)... Steady rain since around 9:30am is just starting to try and switch to slushy mix. Temp is 36* and falling. 500' elevation, just outside of Gorst.
  4. Watching the battle outside my office window: still snowing steadily, but no longer sticking to the trees and sliding off the greenhouse roof in big clumps. Crossing my fingers we stay snow through to evening!
  5. Took the doggo out for a nice long snow-romp, just in case this turns to rain (which I know is not unlikely). He's half Bernese Mountain Dog and he would spend all day outside quite happily on snow days if I let him.
  6. Same scene out here in Sunnyslope, too. I'm calling it now: if the precipitation sticks around all day, like it's "supposed" to, and somehow we manage to avoid it turning to rain at any point, then the 4-5 inches they predicted for us is lowballing it.
  7. I didn't want to say anything until it was clearly a thing, but it's a thing, now: it's been snowing steadily here for the last hour, but in the last 15 minutes or so the flakes have gotten fat and fluffy. We got barely a dusting overnight but what's falling now is slowly refreshing what we lost yesterday and is beginning to clearly stick to the trees. Maybe a half inch of new stuff already.
  8. After all day of full sun and bluebird skies, in the last 10-15 minutes we've completely clouded over and we're in a snowglobe! We had a lot of melting but there's still a few inches on the grass and gravel, so I'm curious to see how things go tonight when the temperature drops.
  9. It snowed here steadily all night, it seems. Haven't measured officially, but just eyeballing it we got between 3 and 4 inches. I can hear dripping and it definitely looks heavy on the trees, so not sure how long it'll stick around. Looks nice right now, though!
  10. Good to know other parts of Kitsap are seeing it. We're averaging about one flake per minute down here, but hey, it's a start.
  11. The thing I still don't understand is the safety aspect of it. Why wouldn't you rather get yelled at for being overly cautious if the reverse could cause real damage? We all know that snow has the potential to cripple the region, especially if it's a surprise. I just don't understand the "embarassment" aspect of it when safety is at stake. I don't think I'll ever get it.
  12. I don't really know what I'm talking about, here, but that enormous blob of green on the UW Radar is looking pretty ominous. Is that heading this way?
  13. It wouldn't surprise me, either, since I've noticed that the Forecast Discussions often read a little...defensive. Like they're arguing with someone we can't see.
  14. I think about this a lot. When the consequences for being wrong are so hazardous, I really don't know why you wouldn't want to err on the side of over-caution. The worst that happens if they're wrong is that people canceled plans and stocked up on bread and milk for no reason. Right? But they're still alive, at home, and uninjured, albeit maybe a bit miffed. The consequences for being wrong in the other direction--no warnings, forecast bust--are downright scary, and we've seen it play out many times.
  15. A lovely lake. Fantastic for trout-fishing, too. Some of the cleanest, healthiest fish I've ever seen. And delicious.
  16. My "maybe-snow, maybe-not" shopping is done. Fred Meyer in Port Orchard was suspiciously calm; just the usual Friday afternoon shopping busyness. I'm guessing no one is concerned........yet.
  17. And if the pattern continues for where you are vs where I am, then I'm guessing we'll get just slightly less than you. Phew! Won't be disappointed with that, if it shakes out.
  18. The way people are talking about this carries weird echoes of February 2019, to me. And we got an incredible 24" that year. The forecast ahead of time was kind of downplaying it, but then it was a multi-day marathon of more and more snow. That was wild. Are there ACTUAL similarities to that pattern here, or is it just a coincidence?
  19. Welp. I'm doing my "just in case" shopping trip at some point today. Hope I don't jinx anything. Very curious to see if there will be anyone else there stocking up, or if it will be business as usual.
  20. Well, that was unexpected! It's about 26 degrees out there and I think we got a solid 3 inches! It's VERY fluffy and powdery. Reminds me of being in the mountains. I guess our 500' elevation helped us out, this time around!
