Even though it wasn't a crazy amount, I think the conditions made it amazing, with the wind and cold. We had about 3" here so a bit more than PDX. We were 20/14 the day of the snow. The cold sun with snow was great too. Definitely one of my favorites 20240113_102524.mp4 20240113_102204.mp4

It was clear at home, now here in Hillsboro with very dense freezing fog

That Feb 1962 blast looks really impressive, some snow going into the cold as well. This is from the Oregonian on 2/24/1962. Salem had 5.4" of snow that day. Then Salem and Hillsboro had a low of 17 on the 26th, PDX got to 20 twice, Eugene got down to 18. And then late Feb and early March had 8"+ at both Seattle and Olympia

Wow, 8" snowstorm at SeaTac from Feb 28th-March 1st. After a low of 18 as well. I didn't realize there was a second event that winter after the blast in January. That winter followed by 1962-63 was pretty great. Also didn't realize there were two blasts in Jan 1963, both look really nice.

Last march was great. Couple of half inch snowfalls, on the 10th and ~25th I think and then a bunch of days with snow in the air throughout the month. -

Even with this torch, I think it's been a pretty fun month, better than anything I expected from a strong Nino. Starting with the arctic air arriving from both the north and east on the 12th, then the blizzard and snow/sleet storm that dropped 3" here with temps below 15 degrees for most of it. Cold and sunny with snowcover on the 15th was pretty amazing, second winter in a row with that. Then some freezing rain on the 16th and 18th, with the snow sticking around for over a week. Then a couple days ago we even had a brief but huge downpour with multiple lightning strikes. Probably will end up around average at PDX for temps but pretty wet. Almost 11" of precip here for the month. Glad to see early February looks chilly too. -

That looks like a great event here. Probably ~10" of snow in a single storm followed by cold and sun. -

Colorado was really amazing when we went last year. The variety was really cool. I definitely want to visit again. The December 2022 arctic blast happened while I was there as well, making it even better. The first two pictures are from Colorado Springs and the last two from Frisco -

Looks like Dallas did it in Jan 1917. 7.1" snowstorm on the 14th and then 84 on the 30th -

Thankfully we had the huge storm the previous month. How much did you get closer to the coast range that January? -

It was pretty decent here. A lot of the Willamette Valley had a lot of snow I think, areas around Eugene had ~10". Here we were a bit snow shadowed and only got 2-3" of wet snow total but it was still a nice stretch, and we had one subfreezing high here after most melted. -

Thank you for these write ups! Really informative and great to read! Those obs for BLI on the 13th are insane. Those late month snows look crazy impressive here as well. Looks like a newspaper article from the Beaverton Enterprise says drifts were around 4 feet in Cedar Mill in early February. -

I've been curious, what was the specific progression like that month to have that much precip/cold? From what I can tell, it looks like there was a small airmass around New Year's with some snow, then a big blast with signficant snow around the 13th, and then another major airmass at the end of the month after a brief warmup? I was wondering about the individual airmasses that affected the region that month mostly. -

Pretty fun to see extreme downpours, lightning, and hail with some isolated snow piles still around. -

That was crazy intense, suddenly a ton of water on the roads after that downpour. Didn't see any lightning but I did hear a couple rumbles of thunder and it looks like some lightning strikes really close by. -
