  1. There was no way you or anyone “knew” in December it was going to be a dud.
  2. It’s been 5 years since the last really big event in the south sound. Time flies…I have a feeling we will get hit with another major event before 2030!
  3. Pretty good list! If I was strictly going to rank of the top big dawg 21st century events in Tacoma…really tough to rank everything besides 2008 and 2019. February 2019 was really something else. I know regionally 2008 was great for everyone but i actually had quite a bit more snow in 2019. February 2019 December 2008 December 2021 February 2021 January 2012 November 2010 February 2011 February 2017
  4. Lol no curve. If we had 7 years in a row like 08-09 in this climate they’re all getting As.
  5. B tier had 7 but yes even spread besides that. These are rankings based off of my location during those winters of course no regional implications or thought put in just my experience and memories. If I had to put my least favorite winter no question it’d be this year (no recency bias it’s literally been that bad). My favorite would be 2018-2019.
  6. F tier in my memories back ~20 years 2025-2026 2015-2016 2004-2005 2012-2013 D tier 2009-2010 2014-2015 2023-2024 2005-2006 C tier 2019-2020 2007-2008 2013-2014 2024-2025 B tier 2016-2017 2017-2018 2022-2023 2006-2007 2020-2021 2011-2012 2003-2004 A tier 2008-2009 2010-2011 2018-2019 2021-2022
  7. Yeah, historically El Niño especially super ninos are definitely less favorable…but overall I don’t think a winter is decided upon Nina’s or ninos. Definitely more to it. February 2019 was an absolute insane 6 week stretch of cold and snow opportunities…and it was during late winter in a Nino which is supposedly the worst possible window for snow.
  8. It’ll snow next year. El Niños get a lot of hate but arguably the second best event of the century behind December 2008 was a Nino in 2019. I believe 2006-2007 was also a nino. This year was a La Niña and was an all time dud so I’ll take my chances with a weak/moderate El Niño.
  9. I could be wrong here but I don’t think there’s ever been 2 back to back entirely snowless winters. I think the closest we’ve came was 14-15 and 15-16…November 2014 saved us but technically DJF was snowless. Going back to back without atleast 1/2” of snow at SEA would be nuts. It’s actually pretty rare to go entirely snowless in western Washington. Basically about a ~15% chance any given year. People talk about how hard it is to get snow in western Washington but really it’s pretty uncommon to go entirely snowless. What’s hard is getting more than 3 or 4 inches of snow for most places.
  10. I’d say it’s pretty safe to say winter is over. We’re not due for an April 2022 redux for about 10-15 more years lol
  11. Was kind of suprised to see a few snowflakes here in silverdale a bit ago. Looked at home and it’s flurrying there as well.
  12. I start to get kayaking fever this time of year. Part of me wants some spring like weather to get out on the water but the mountains really need some snow. Looks like the WA cascades should get some decent amounts this weekend into next week. Oregon doesn’t get much the next 10 days on most of the models.
  13. Yeah, it’s been pretty awful…there’s been dud years but this one has felt like another level entirely.
  14. Statistically speaking we were definitely due for a regional stinker. Last true nasty dud for everyone regionally was 2015-2016 although id argue that one was not nearly as bad of a dud as this one. I think even with a likely El Niño looming we will probably still manage some snow next year. Not many cases of 2 horrific entirely snowless winters in a row especially up in western Washington. In recent years 14-15 and 15-16 would be close but November 2014 was actually a pretty solid event despite the rest of the winter sucking.
  15. Yeah, we had some snow flurries this morning but never amounted to anything. Going to go down as an entirely snowless winter here. Onto 2026-2027! Can’t be any worse than this one right….
