  1. Yeah you can clearly see there’s smoke in the air here this morning. But per Phil’s suggestion…if we control our air pollution problem solved! In all seriousness this really sucks we had smoke in late October and now May of the next year.
  2. Thankfully I already did my summer vacation this year just last week. Might be a long summer coming if we don’t get some rain in western Canada and here soon.
  3. Big improvement in weather today…70 and mostly sunny currently. Was in the mid 80s and very humid at this time yesterday feels much better today.
  4. A “cooler” low of 55 this morning after 2 +60 lows in a row. We’re up to +3.5F MTD as of yesterday. Pretty much a lock for a warmer than normal month at this point. 89 is a record for the month of May here, and we should break the record of +80 days for the month as well by the end of the week. Tables have really turned as we entered the second half of spring.
  5. Action may be fading tonight but still saw a lot of distant bolts here.
  6. Have been watching the storms to the south and north all night. Storm up north has given me some amazing photos that I’ll post later. Not as close to the storms as last time but it’s still been awesome. Also dropped from 89 to 63 now!
  7. Marine pushy out there gradients are gonna flip onshore soon
  8. Storms have had a hard time getting off the terrain so far…but it’s early still.
  9. I thought the temp would cap out with clouds but temps been rising faster with cloud cover.
  10. Marine push underway to the west…Shelton down to 79 after maxing out at 90. Marine push could trigger some convection as it moves inland. Just hit 89 here a new record for May and still time to hit 90.
  11. Getting a temp spike despite the clouds moving in. 88 here and at SEA as well.
  12. Usually don’t hear the words “severe” or “flash flooding” from the NWS.
  13. Based on satellite and radar I’d say we’re in a pretty good spot. Just hit 87 a few minutes ago warmer than yesterday and it feels very hot with the humidity.
  14. You can pretty clearly see it the storm to the east. High cloud bases should make for interesting photos like the storm a couple weeks back. You
  15. First lightning of the day in the lowlands with that storm.
  16. 86 now…feels really muggy. Radar is looking more interesting by the minute at this point but still going to take a bit more time it’s early.
  17. Really impressive storm blew up outta nowhere east of chehalis. It’s staring folks. 85 here 2nd +85 high in a row.
  18. 84 DP 58. Can really see thunderheads starting to develop across the region…lightning particularly across central Oregon for now.
  19. Wasn’t expecting that but today has somewhat of a Midwest thunderstorm feel to it. Could definitely be some heavy rain for some folks that take a direct hit from any storms.
  20. Just hit 80 here for the 3rd +80 high of the year. Looking at the forecast there’s a good chance we set a record for +80 days in May. Most I’ve recorded is 4 total in 2016. Already at 3 here and there will be more this week.
  21. 74 here Timothy, -1 compared to yesterday…but less of a sea breeze here this morning. Wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up a degree or two warmer today while other areas ended up being a bit cooler.
  22. I never even really focus on the details of the models for convection. It’s very rare that any one model handles it correctly. We had a really nice storm here on May 3rd and overall western WA wasn’t really ever the focus of activity with that event on the models.
  23. Interesting satellite imagery this morning. Can clearly see the upper level low rotating over the region…and also how the stratus covers almost the entire pacific ocean in the frame looks bizarre to me.
  24. Very glad I’m not working today. I don’t think I’m even going to have to leave Tacoma to see the action either.
  25. Low of 62 again this morning, we will see what kind of storms develop. I got the day off of work today so I am just going to be storm watching later this afternoon.
