  1. Well crap! I thought 12+ hours of above freezing temps and rain would be enough, but I slipped on the driveway walking to my car. The ground must still be frozen. Guess I'm not running errands, I'm too old and have too much going on in my life to risk falling.
  2. It snowed pretty heavily in Portland, too, but what I remember is the flooding. I've lived 3 blocks from the Columbia River (not in the flood plain, fortunately) for 30 years and that was the highest water level I've ever seen.
  3. Cold rain and 34. Finally above freezing and the great melt off has begun. Going to take a while for the ground to warm up, though, especially with the snow cover. Have had snow on the ground since Saturday and what's here is going to take another day to melt off - not a bad run at all.
  4. Looks like the main rain band is already through, just showers on the radar now. No power out for days icing so far, thank goodness.
  5. Just started sprinkling here. Hope when it picks up we'll get some sleet - I'll take any precip that isn't freezing rain.
  6. Taps foot waiting for the snow to start. If my phone says it's going to snow it has to be true, right?
  7. Around 4-5 inches IMBY. Here are a couple of shots from my walk earlier today. 1. Palm trees in the snow 2. Columbia River bluff
  8. Hope some of that heads my way up Hwy 30 soon. Based on the models that said we'd be in the bullseye for some serious snow totals, this storm has been a bit of a disappointment so far. Here are a couple from my place. (1) between the wind and the dry, light snow it hasn't been sticking to the roofs in my neighborhood. (2) my back deck with the (maybe) 2 inches we have so far.
  9. We (Lower Columbia/I-5 Corridor) typically over preform during classic Portland snowstorms. But occasionally we get skunked when the low comes in too far south. Hoping for the former, although 1-3 in. and a 20 degree high would still be pretty impressive.
  10. Yep, hummingbirds can go into a semi-hibernation state to conserve energy when it's extremely cold. Unusual for them to pick the feeder rather than a sheltered spot in the bushes, but I guess they want to be first in line for the next meal . https://www.birdsandblooms.com/birding/attracting-hummingbirds/where-do-hummingbirds-sleep/
