  1. This was never going to be an event for the valley. Especially down south. I'm pretty embedded into Eugene as my home so I will not likely ever leave. I've reached the conclusion that I need to get a better snow car (have a shitttty front wheel Camry that isn't terrible, but not ideal). There are some nice destinations less than 2 hours that are extremely snowy. Crescent Lake has great places. Odell Lake has a nice lodge and cabins. Diamond Lake has some rustic, fun cabins. I'm thinking of maybe buying a partial cabin ownership with some friends when my financial situation gets a bit better. Some of the lakes have great summer and winter activities. It's one of the great things of living in the PNW.
  2. Mark Nelsen is the best forecaster in the state, at least for the gorge, Mt Hood and PDX. He misses far less than the NWS and always explains his thoughts.
  3. Crap. Sorry about that Jeese. I was inhaling some paint fumes.
  4. Team Jessie here. It looks like some mountain snow is on the way. It is definitely needed. Nice to see.
  5. The fog found its home and my next door neighbor brought in a windmill for unknown reasons.
  6. I have frogs. They are producing some major ribbits.
  7. Strangely, it is clear out at the moment which is rare this time of the year unless it is super cold out. I'm sure it will last for the rest of the night.
  8. Holy carp it is so warm out. Definitely tshirt weather. In the sun (rare these days) it is actually uncomfortably warm out. Ok fine. I'll join team Jesse for the next couple of months,
  9. Olympic National Park is a complete treasure. When I was quite a bit younger I took a 20+ mile hike on the coastline which was incredible, but not exactly what I would call good beaches. The scenery was top notch. To end the hike, we had to go through a couple of miles of rain forest with massive trees. Good memories, but much of the rest of the WA coast is kind of disappointing. My grandparents that lived in Bothell would come down to the central Oregon coast every year to experience the gem that it is.
  10. Too many druggings by the employees to unexpecting young ladies was the downfall. What a shameful bar that became. Disgusting.
  11. It's a huge lake. Many arms to explore and enjoy. When you get back, there are (were) multiple restaurants and bars to enjoy. It was the source of great weekends which I still look back fondly upon. It definitely isn't a day lake from Eugene. But there are others like Fall Creek Reservoir that are still real nice.
  12. Done that multiple times before boating was available. There is a large park on the North Santiam fork with a ton of picnic tables and good fishing. I like the one on the Breitenbush fork better though. Caught many tasty planters there.
  13. I've kayaked for 20+ years, but mostly whitewater. I've also had my eye on this trip. There are plenty of blogs and guides about where to camp, get supplies, etc. out there. I'll do it one day before I get too old.
  14. That's why you leave your boat at one of the two large marinas. Not mine, and it it is a good deal to have your best friend owning a nice boat and cabin (before it burnt down).
  15. Debatable. But I will say that Washington's beautiful lakes are more accessible. This is in the Wallowas.
  16. Detroit lake is super clean at least and probably in the top 3 of boating destinations in Oregon. The drive wasn't too much of a burden when my buddy had a cabin there and we could stay for a couple of days. There is a back country route from Eugene that is a terrific drive. Unfortunately the cabin is gone now due to the fire and I haven't been back much since. The town is rebuilding nicely though and I hope to spend more time there soon.
  17. Most of the waterways up there are freezing other than the urban ones that have plenty of asphalt runoff and unclean crap. I'm looking at you swimmer's edge Green Lake. I've been to Detroit Lake many times when the temp was over 72 degrees and once it was even 77 degrees and totally clean.
  18. The general rule if you aren't a ****** is to help out any boater that is in trouble. I've helped some people that were stuck snowmobiling and the look of gratitude they gave me is indescribable when I helped them get free. They were so grateful. I generally feel that those are some of my favorite memories on the snow. A dude even gave me a 6 pack he had in his cooler because he was in total relief. I didn't turn it down. Boating is no different.
  19. Ha! Imagine the embarrassment of being towed in on a nice jetski or boat by that thing (btw, I would love to be able to play around with that as a kid). The bro that took me in was on a jetski/waverunner, so I've loved them ever since.
  20. Yep. It was at full pool and super windy that day. Fortunately, the water temps were 70+ so I didn't freeze. But I was completely exhausted.
  21. Just be prepared for breakdowns/emergencies. This isn't the same thing, but when I was a teenager, I couldn't quite figure out windsurfing and sailed out into the middle of a large lake and couldn't figure out how to get back against the wind. That was one of the shittttiest days of my life. Fortunately, some cool bro eventually saw my predicament and helped me out.
  22. The WCWI (West Coast Weenie Index) is at a +2.5. That usually leads to some February snows.
  23. Records from back then are hard to come by, but I'm pretty sure there was a 67 burger.
  24. 324 years ago today, the last Cascadia_Wx earthquake hit the PNW. It was probably devastating.
