  1. Light ZR now. 27 degrees. It is dead calm. This cold won't scour out very quickly without some mixing from up above. I'm a bit concerned.
  2. Not a drop here yet. Probably about 15 minutes or less though. Hope it doesn't last too long.
  3. Maybe we could have a massive 4 inch ice storm that destroys all the trees. That would make us somewhat fire resistant.
  4. Yep. This low level crap gives us a taste of winter, which is nice, but it comes with a high price. Where have the BC coastal hugging spinners been lately? We're about due for one. I doubt it will happen this winter though.
  5. That sucks dude. I've never seen an ice storm affect locations so close together so differently. We're probably about 5 miles away from each other tops. There have been a few small trees and limbs down in my neighborhood but nothing really out of the ordinary. At least you have the memories of Feb 2019 to look back on.
  6. Yep. It bounces off the trees just fine. It does end up on the flat ground and can and does cause major road issues, but not power issues.
  7. If you are on a PC, there is an optional checkbox to notify that you edited the post. I'm not sure it's there on the mobile version.
  8. Springfield, especially Thurston, got really hard hit compared to Eugene. We had a ton of sleet whereas they mainly got a ton of freezing rain. The roads in both locations are equally as bad.
  9. I expect virga for a while. I posted this earlier, but a private company is finally going to add some doppler radars to Oregon. https://www.kezi.com/news/new-company-looks-to-add-doppler-radars-to-oregon-to-fix-the-radar-gap/article_73effdc2-b10d-11ee-b5eb-2b69b0b1a51e.html
  10. There are a few stars out. First ones I've seen in probably about a week.
  11. I missed 2004. I was in the bay area for the holidays and I-5 was closed for like 3 days due to the extreme storm, so we had to stay for a few extra days. There was about 4-5 feet of snow in the Weed area. When I finally got back to Eugene, there was only a couple of inches of slop left. No idea how bad it actually got down here.
  12. Looks like we'll end up with a 29/21 spread today. Sucks balls for those without power. It is tough to scour out low level cold in the WV. I'm sure the next storm tomorrow won't totally suck at all.
  13. Here is a reddit thread that had many people that were stuck in the traffic jam posting about it. It just sounds like pure misery. Chains are required on I-5 from Cottage Grove north.
  14. BTW, that is all ice. A combination of an inch and a half of sleet and a half inch of ZR all blended together and frozen solid. We didn't get any snow at all.
  15. Oops. That's my Doug Fir drooping to about 5 feet above the road.
  16. I've been waiting for a decent news article to come out, but there was a traffic jam yesterday that was up to FIFTEEN hours long with temps in the 20's on I-5 northbound. A bunch of big rigs wrecked, flipped, jackknifed, took out power poles, etc. A backup of 25 miles. EV cars running out of battery, people freezing, just an unbelievable situation. It was around the Cottage Grove area. I'll post an article when I find one. ODOT was completely inept and did not close the freeway so thousands of people got on the freeway not knowing what was ahead of them. No way to get out. Just a total nightmare.
  17. 25 degrees with cloudy skies and 1.5-2" or so of glacial ice. I think Eugene may be one of the colder spots in the WV at the moment. Walked to the Dari Mart and bought supplies (beer). I couldn't find my yaktrax but I found that my golf shoes work great on the ice. Internet is out, but the tether from my cell phone is working great. Lost power for about 20 minutes. I dug out all my cold weather gear and started putting it on when it came back. Phew. Not looking forward to the ice storm tomorrow. There are quite a few trees that are on the brink. Another half inch of ice would really cause some problems.
  18. Light freezing rain continues. 21 degrees. It's laughable how bad the NWS screwed up the forecast down here. Anyway, Eugene is one frozen ice cube. We were fortunate enough that much of the precip today was sleet opposed to ZR. Also, for whatever reason, really cold ZR doesn't stick to tree branches as much as 31 degree ZR does. Tree damage was actually pretty limited. However, on flat surfaces, I basically have 1.5" of frozen glacial ice. This will take forever to melt out. My car ain't going anywhere soon.
  19. 24 degrees with moderate freezing rain. No damage so far, but the trees can't take much more. The sleet we got earlier actually seems to have helped with traction. It's not as slippery as it usually is with a half inch of freezing rain.
  20. Me too, although I'm not exactly sure how to deal with sleet. Eugene usually only gets freezing rain or snow. I'm gonna hope for the best. I'm sure the modeled ZR amounts won't pan out. But even if they did, I'll be fine. I love camping and have supplies for days and warm everything that would be needed.
