Ken in Wood Village replied to Meatyorologist's topic in West of the Rockies
Temperature here has been falling like a rock since 6:30pm. It's because the winds are coming from the WNW now. -

It's one benefit of living next to the Gorge. We always transition out of the cold last (at least in the eastern suburbs of Portland...lol -

I think he doesn't know how good Mark is. Sometimes people forget how good he actually is I actually think there is going to be a battle zone in the Portland area. It's going to be the clash of two air masses. Cold dry air and warm moist air. The combination of the two with the strong winds will stir the atmosphere to give us convection which should produce more precipitation. At least that's my theory. We'll see π¨ -

I forgot I wanted to post this earlier this morning. These are pictures from January 11th, 2017, the day after the big snowstorm. This was an amazing snowstorm. I wouldn't mind having this again π¨ -

January 2024 Weather in the PNW (Part II)

I've been up for awhile couldn't help but wonder what the models are showing so that's why I'm awake it's going to be a long day (I'm working 9 hour days ). Models are looking better for snowfall in my area and other places too but that's not the reason why I'm making a post. I was looking through Facebook and I follow this group for the PNW and saw this picture and had to screenshot it for the people up in the Seattle area. This is an amazing picture and the amount of snow that fell is incredible. It's so hard for Seattle and Portland to get a decent amount of snow but 5 feet amazing π¨ -

I looked at it earlier today (around 4pm) and it only had a max of I think 6 inches of snow and now it's up to 8 inches π¨ -

I forgot to mention this in my last post. The models show a general location of what MAY happen. The location will differ from actual landfall for the low pressure system. The models normally under do the moisture and where it actual goes. Just because Portland gets hit hard, doesn't mean people up North won't get anything. Hope is not all lost. π¨ -

This would be a major storm for the Portland area. The winds are going to be really really strong. Probably blizzard conditions π¨ -

I'll never forget this epic snowstorm on January 10th, 2017. I don't remember what time I went to bed that night because I loved watching it snow. The East winds were blowing a bat out of hell through the Gorge and it was snowing for hours. I wish we could have another storm like this one π¨ -

Rain and snow mix here. Temperature has been falling steadily. It was 41 at 7:30pm and now it's 38.1 and still falling. I want to stay up but I need some sleep. Hopefully we get a inch or two when I wake up π¨
