Power is out here.

Yep, really picking up here. It can hear it roaring through the firs of Fircrest!

I still don't understand why Seattle NWS did not advise more strongly on the local coastal flooding. They worded it as "minor flooding." With such low barometric pressure they should have known that the tides would be significantly higher than predicted.

The weather advisory mentioned minor coastal flooding, but it is definitely more than minor. My in-law's beach house in University Place has flooding higher than they have ever seen! Their basement room is completely flooded and they had to take the chickens in the house because of the pond in the back yard. Combination of King tides and extreme low pressure, plus SW winds pushing the waves even higher.

The sting of the scorpion's tail!

I enjoy a good windstorm but because I work in park maintenance I don't care for the cleanup required. Since I am on vacation this week, my coworkers who are working can deal with it if anything significant happens. The Hanukkah Eve storm in 2006 was terrible...it took us weeks to clear the 5 mile drive at Point Defiance. Don't want to deal with that again!

It seems like windstorms are particularly hard to forecast accurately and when they are hyped they tend not to happen. Does anyone recall if the bad ones we have had were accurately forecasted or were somewhat of a surprise?

Finally up to 33 here. The Great Thaw is beginning!

Very treacherous sidewalk, driveway and street here. I heard that several of my coworkers made it in to work today, hard to believe. I did not risk it.

Nothing here yet. 25 with a NE wind. According to the phone app it's supposed to be snowing right now.

Anyone remember Ray Ramsey on KOMO? He was a great weather personality for 20 years with his plaid jackets and wisecracking jokes.

Sure looks like it based on the radar. Too bad. Maybe there will be something still tonight.

I just had higher expectations based on the potential but still think we'll get something interesting in the Tacoma area before this is over. It's hard to see all the snow up north and not be disappointed in what could have been.

We arrived at SeaTac from Palm Springs last night at 10 and it was snowing but just wet runways so definitely no reason to cancel or delay unless related to other airport issues. Meanwhile the SW wind is ripping through Fircrest and 42 this morning. Pretty disappointed.
-
Any reports or predictions for SeaTac tonight? We are flying home from Palm Springs where it was a beautiful 68 degrees today. We'll be arriving at 10 pm. Any chance of runway issues?

PNW December 2022, winter might be coming; but mostly canceled.

If I remember correctly, he would talk a lot about "main and broader cold" and the movement of it. Very cryptic at times but fascinating. -

Very true! We're all probably a little weird in our weather obsession. I know my wife certainly doesn't understand and has learned to tune me out when I start hyping the next big snow storm. -

Are Snownerd, WeatherGeek and Weather Nerd the same person? -

Wow! I was really worried and wondering if things were shut down for good. I know I don't contribute much but I'm always reading the forum and after a kind of weird day on here, and not being able to connect, it felt like I was losing family! -

We're flying out of SeaTac on the 16th to Palm Springs and returning on the 19th. Wondering what conditions we'll face on return? Hopefully we'll get home ok. -

My boss's Aunt Bonnie who is known to have dreams and visions that occasionally come true, had one not long ago where we got 3 feet of snow! It reminded me of the GFS.
