  1. My preference is four distinct seasons. I don't favor summer or winter.
  2. You're probably right. Then he had his 10 year reunion in 1979. Before that he started exercising, lost some weight, and finished Alcoholics Anonymous. His resurgence was brief. Shortly thereafter he took a slide down the nearly vertical slope, and he has never recovered.
  3. I'm fine with a semi-arid climate. I don't remember Whitehall. I'll have to look it up.
  4. February has gone from the outhouse to the mansion in my lifetime. He should write a book. It's a feel good story that would probably make a great movie. Meanwhile, his brother, January, has gotten strung out on crack. He's currently living in a van down by the river.
  5. They have a dynamic climate there. They are like Denver but farther north. You'll see wild horses and other things. It definitely has a Columbia Basin vibe to it.
  6. What a shame! I've been there twice. I went to the reenactment in June 1992. Jack Palance was the master of ceremonies.
  7. I don't remember a lot of heat in June 1989. I don't expect June to be very summery. It was pretty run of the mill.
  8. I like Western history. There is a lot of that around Billings.
  9. Good point. June 1989 should have been a dumpster fire.
  10. The smoke of September 2020 was one the worst events that I've ever experienced.
  11. It was arguably more historic and unprecedented in Western Washington and Western Oregon. Forks had never reached 100 degrees in recorded history prior to last year. They ended up reaching 110. Eastern Washington sees highs above 100 every summer.
  12. Sounds awful. I admire the constitution and fortitude of the early settlers. In modern terms, they had balls of steel.
  13. I survived last summer without air conditioning. There is no way I would have gone without heat in February 1989.
  14. You could adapt. Anybody can. I served with guys from Western Washington and Western Oregon in the South. They all did just fine. Texas natives and people from similar climates had an advantage, obviously.
  15. Yes, nevermind the complexion of most people this year. It's like a fresh halibut steak.
  16. I sweated like crazy. I sometimes marvel that I was never a heat casualty at some point. I used to drink water like a dog. I was always so thirsty. It's amazing what the human body can endure.
  17. I spent some quality time in Georgia. Summer is treasured in Spokane, but I feared it in Georgia. I moved back from Georgia in August many years ago. I spent most of that August in Spokane. At the time, I could tolerate Spokane's summer weather with the windows closed, no fans on, and zero air conditioning.
  18. Coastal Georgia is horrible. I spent 10-12 hrs a day in the motor pool at Ft Stewart. I got in trouble one time, and I got assigned extra duty. I was stuck in a drainage ditch with a sling blade cutting weeds in July. Whatever I did wrong, I promise I'll never do it again.
  19. It takes a least a summer to acclimate if you didn't grow up in a humid climate. My heat tolerance is still pretty decent. I tolerated last summer in Spokane Valley without air conditioning. It wasn't always pleasant though.
  20. The South is like that. Instability thunderstorms happen everyday during the summer. All that Tropical air is hot, moist, and unstable. None of them are particularly severe, but they can drop a lot of rain in a short time.
  21. It's one extreme to the other. Spring 2021 was inordinately sunny and dry. This year we get to experience the polar opposite. Honestly, we could use the rain over here. January-March was rather dry. I think areas west of the Cascades have had enough though.
  22. I could handle Billings, but Bozeman or Butte would be a tall order. Elevation is a killer. I was over there in June 1992 at the Little Bighorn. It was not warm. I wore shorts anyway. I was in Butte in July 1993. We were scraping our windshield. I would honestly consider moving over to Billings though. I like it over there.
