  1. 84 at PDX today... exactly what the ECMWF showed on Friday when I was told it was running 5 degrees too warm for every day there. It was clearly going to be wrong for yesterday which I agreed with... it did not recognize the strength of the marine push.
  2. Because people in the northern hemisphere recognize that January is the dead of winter. And its always cold and damp here in January... whether its above normal or not. I have never heard anyone talk about the incredible warmth in January... only on this forum. People would expect snow to happen in December and January if its going to happen. But I truly think people's reaction to cold is more enjoyable to you than the cold itself.
  3. It is my favorite station... gorgeous location. I love it. Maybe its cooler there in really hot patterns due to the lake. I bet that station has a reverse UHI. SEA is the good station. By the way... it was perfectly equal with SEA in June and July. Now 0.7 different this month. Not really shocking.
  4. Thinly filtered sun here and yet there are rain drops. Enough sun that it feels warm... probably at 70-80% strength. Sprinkles... but my silly wife would call it drizzle.
  5. Today would be a perfect day to be over in Coulee City... 83 and sunny with a light breeze.
  6. Don't leave us again. You add so much unbiased and detailed information. Invaluable to our little group of weather fanatics.
  7. Baffled people? You truly love that... you reference it so often. I am honestly not even sure if you like the cold or people's reaction to the cold more. Seriously. No non-weather person would ever think January is incredibly warm here. I clearly remember being buried in snow in January 2012 and then a massive ice storm and never heard anyone say 'how could this happen in January'. People assume it's the coldest winter month.
  8. OK. Glad I live, work, and play in the Seattle area. Nobody is taking the UHI away any time soon.
  9. Gorgeous day here... filtered sun and full sun at times and in the low 70s.
  10. No. Just that its been pretty irrelevant this summer when comparing to stations like WFO SEA, BLI, Victoria, Hoquaim, etc. Some stations removed from UHI have been even warmer than SEA.
  11. Probably won't stick around through October... and summer was not cool here.
  12. Probably should have seen a cool August as well huh? Lets check back at the end of October.
  13. If I had to bet money... warmer than normal second half of September, October, and a wet/warm November. And then the fun could start. Still think best stuff is in January this year.
  14. Great. Locally we cycled through the coolest, wettest period in the first third of the month and then it was dry and warmer than normal. My feeling is the same for September.
  15. My thought is that we cycle through a 10-day cool, troughy period like we did in early July and then the rest of the September is dry and a little warmer than normal. Just a feeling that I am getting based on our analog years. I also think October might end up fairly warm. I welcome criticism if I am wrong.
  16. Playing around on WeatherBell this morning... the CFS is very warm in the west this winter. In fact the coldest month shown between now and next spring in September. Hopefully its wrong as usual. Even I want a cold winter.
  17. They did not really move all the way in the from the coast... but rather formed over the Seattle area with the weak front sliding through now. Still totally sunny here. Might be a strange case where the low clouds move in during the late morning and then break up.
  18. I hate when people mix up sprinkles and drizzle. Silly to care... I know. But they are very different. You can be outside and not get wet with sprinkles... you can get drenched quickly in drizzle.
