  1. What an unreal winter. Left SE Wisconsin mid Jan for the UP, had more snow in SE Wisconsin. Went to Lutsen and passed through Duluth mid March. Saddest state. I still have pictures from when I went there April 2023 and there was so much more snow.
  2. I hate this pattern so much! Where was this in February? Could have been 10 inches of good snow.
  3. Blizzard warning at Lutsen and my friend is heading up there to ski. Just hoping this backside rain underperforms, I got one or two Granite Peak trips in Wausau left in me.
  4. 23-24 was catastrophic. We need a good winter here, winter sports in the midwest are struggling this year. Ski resorts are already crying about getting federal funding to save them and some of them lost close to a million dollars this year between expenses and lost revenue. I just got back from Lutsen Resort, all the runs without snowmaking were closed. They were at 20in of total snow for the season before the snow this week, normally see 120in. Even with this late storm, they have no base on their other runs so nothing else is gonna open. I've got my indy ski pass for next year so I'm really hoping I can use it a lot more next year. It's so far away though...

  6. Kind of interesting accuweather is calling for 2-4 yet everyone else is going for 6-10 in Wausau. Specially since the models on TT say 5-12.
  7. Woke up to a wwa about 4-8 in se wi for Friday, wtf. I still have a few days to get to granite peak. Crazy to think there's some good snow possibly up there. Even if they got back side rain, 8 inches before that sounds like really good conditions for late spring ski and board.
  8. Oh thanks for the heads up, 07-08 was pretty crazy looking at the chart from the link I posted.
  9. I checked those strong nina years on the WI Climatology site and only 2010-11 was above average in snowfall. 2010-11 also was pretty cold but had a strong january thaw. Something we sort of lacked this year. https://climatology.nelson.wisc.edu/first-order-station-climate-data/madison-climate/historical-snowfall/
  10. Yes, I got hammered. Torrential rain, pea sized hail. Nothing seems to be damaged but it was raining hard. I have drain tile that drains to my garden to auto-irrigate when it rains, collecting rain water off the side of the house since I have no gutters. There was probably a foot of water in the garden. Was pretty wild, definitely finished off the resorts in SE Wisconsin who thought they could recover from last weekend's heat.
  11. This winter was unbelievable bad for winter sports. The last few winters we still managed to pull of regular length seasons. From a ski/snowboard season that normally goes from late november to the third week in march, we didn't really get started until after new year's, and places barely made it to the start of March. Cascade wasn't fully open until mid January, two to three weeks later than normal, and they are closing three weeks earlier than normal. I still managed to make the best of it, and have one last trip planned, maybe two. I made the most of it but still, pretty terrible. I sure hope next winter is better.
  12. Don't ask questions, just eat the bugs!
  13. TropicalTidbits added the Euro AIFS model for free.
  14. Man the West is really calling me after such a bum winter out here. I think I'm gonna end up having more days in a shirt than a coat on the hill this year.
  15. Starting to think maybe these resorts down here aren't so crazy to keep blowing snow when they can in this weather. Maybe they can make it past the first week of March and still get two more weeks. I know they usually have a goal of being open until St Patrick's Day weekend.
  16. Ahhh GFS end of run with me in the bull's eye for 11 inches and I'm gonna be out of town. Lock it in Chicago it'll be the one time GFS long range verifies
  17. Hope to see a warm March. I am scared we are going to pay dearly for the warm February. I'd be ok with this bad winter if it means a quick spring. I look locked in to crush my record between snowboard and jet ski. Previous was snowboard Alpine Monday, jet ski Friday. Amazing how we had so many signals for Arctic air in models after the 15 of Feb and it never came for any meaningful amount of time
  18. Even a weenie band right over me. Lock. It. In!!!
  19. Woke up to lower 20s in Wausau, snow boarding granite peak. 15 degrees warmer just an hour and a half south in portage. It's amazing how a little drive can be the difference sometimes. Snow was pretty good last night, should be good today. Next Tuesday and Wednesday really scaring me about Alpine valley and Cascade. Hopefully rain stays away. Already seeing hostas sprouting in the yard lol.
  20. I don't know, but it always seems like overperforming temps this time of year is the sign of the end. Interesting this year acorns went bonkers this fall, dropping like crazy, way more than normal, and they were huge. And it ended up a dud winter. I'm not crazy about the farmer's tale things but I at least find it interesting. Farmer's Almanacs all completely blew it, calling for cold and snowy winter.
  21. The lake here is thawing quickly. I think ice off by next Tuesday, guaranteed if we get that rain. Water temp by shore is still in the lower 30s, though. Think I'll be done in SE Wisconsin boarding by end of February. That rain and warmth is going to kill everything. At best ski hills will limp around for a week or two not fulling being open. Too bad.
  22. Two big dogs on the GFS hitting UP in mid/long range. Guess the local forecasts are believing the Euro over GFS. 10 day has half an inch of rain and 50s next monday and tuesday. If that happens, pretty sure my snowboarding in Wisconsin is over. Looks like the ridge (I think that's the right term) is trying to stay away from me since GFS still is torching a lot of the midwest.
  23. Something kind of funny, when GFS said cold after the 16th at the start of feb, the CFS weeklies said warm. Now the GFS says warm and the CFS weeklies say normal to below normal. They have contradicted each other the second half of February and that doesn't look to stop. That said I'm fully expecting a blowtorch.
  24. Sweet, might be worth it to go West snowboarding end of March.
