  1. Already gusting out with a nice little outflow, guessing 60 mph tops.
  2. Thinking MCS type structure tomorrow for E. Ne. Maybe a few supercells to start, likely transitioning to an HP mess rather quickly. Think capping inversion might allow just a few discrete S.C's to form, but even then should be fairly elevated. Think the threat of a bow type structure is there, and not being discussed. Isolated tornado, maybe the highest reports being 1.75" hail and a 70 MPH wind gust. Take what we can get, just my opinion.
  3. Let us remember we are just using the best available educated guess system, "models," in an attempt to locate where the most snow is going to occur. Give her a few days, the super bowl system way over performed in many spots, and would not be shocked if this did the same.
  4. Us Nebraska people are hoping for a turkey.
  5. I am a student at UNL and the roads around campus, walkways, etc., are in poor shape. Only one professor did not cancel class, but I cancelled it on my own by not going. But on snow day's timing really is key, and with the heavy rates this morning no shock nearly everyone called it off. Very ugly.
  6. So GFS and NAM qpf numbers newest runs?
  7. North Platte Just went WSW...information to follow.
  8. Can we trust the NAM though...? It performed decently last storm just totals too high. Whats the best model this close, RGEM, something else?
  9. If you're going to shovel this type of snow, I'll just start a squad that way.
  10. How far is Germantown from say La Cross or Eau Claire?

  12. Enjoy it everyone... I live in far NW Omaha, had about 8 or so, 20 miles to the east 5 or so...if you get under one of those bands look out they explode!
  13. 20 minutes later, went from 2500 people w/o power to nearly 5000...just been years since we have had thick wet snow. Edit: 3 minutes later, 7100.
  14. Lot of reports of, "explosions," per Omaha Police dispatch this evening. Ton of transformers, trees on fire, and lines down. Been a long time since Omaha has had a heavy thick snow like this. Usually more powder. Update: Over 2500 customers in E. Ne. without power. Mainly east Omaha, where the majority of lines are still above ground. Expect more to follow.
  15. Building still looks fully involved with over 120 minutes into working fire, defensive attack. No real progress, eventually they are going to have to try and save the front. Still no under control.
  16. How does weather affect everything? Currently Lincoln (NE) Fire and Rescue has no one available for the entire city. College town, similar to Madison or Champagne. Many personal injury wrecks, normally not a problem right? How about a 4 alarm nightclub fire. Stay safe. http://i.imgur.com/Lfeep4A.jpg Photo Credit: Collin Ulness on twitter.
  17. It still amazes me how many people believe their pinto is a monster truck and going 10 over on snow covered roads is a good idea. Tip for Nebraska folk: Anything besides dodge and I-80 is a soup sandwhich, don't go out.
  18. (Off topic, I know one last post Mod's) I don't how long you have been following them, but I remember two winter's ago a winter storm similar to this and the last update before things really got going was 2 paragraphs...if you can discuss an entire 7 day forecast in 2 paragraphs it probably isn't very complete. Wasn't impressed with their's today at all, just a synoptic setup a brief paragraph.
  19. OAX NWS Final call it would appear. http://i.imgur.com/BjkujaK.png
  20. Hell, the Hasting's AFD includes what time the plows go out, coffee of the week, even a detailed and complete forecast discussion! Wow, how absurd!
  21. Omaha NWS....oh they are interesting...
