Maybe they all think that Kamala will win.
Idk. Portland has gotten calmer over the past few years. Even the protests this summer pretty much only affected PSU.

Are you serious? Wow!
I’m not picking up on that type of energy as I walk around Portland. People seem pretty apathetic.

Hey Seattle and Portland folks... I heard if you ransack enough businesses and break enough windows and close down enough highways and freeways with protesters then they will take the win away from Trump and give it to Kamala.
This is pre-emptive mocking of the complete lunacy that is heading our way by truly brain dead people. How about instead of b*tching and whining like little babies you focus effort on doing better next time?
Uhh…I’m hoping that doesn’t happen here. Kind of doubt there will be much unrest of note in Portland, though I could be wrong.

I watched a TikTok from a Spanish lady who was ranting about the insane rent prices in Spain. It’s a reminder that the whole world is dealing with the same economic problems as us. She was very blunt in stating her opinion that none of their political parties, left or right, are doing anything to help the situation.

You're a black woman voting for Trump? Well you must not be educated then, according to this old liberal white woman.
God, that’s so embarrassing for the pink sweater lady. Good chance her job will find out she started **** with a stranger over politics and she’ll get fired

I just calculated the average snowfall for SEA so far this century and it's 7 inches vs long term average of 10.2. Unfortunately, they had that several year break where snowfall wasn't recorded in the mid 90s through the winter of 2003-04.
That’s pretty good, all things considered. Of course, SEA has some decent elevation. I bet in downtown Seattle the average for this century is 3-4 inches.

I guess, but most places around there are a lot snowier. People moving to the Portland area see that number and think it pretty much never snows and then they get buried and go WTF. Just last winter a lot of communities near there had a good dump of snow.
I live just a mile east of downtown Portland…so I don’t think that applies to me, sadly. Though just a couple miles east of here is Mt. Tabor, which is 650 feet tall so it probably snows a few inches more up there on average.

And business as usual for Eugene/Springfield.
I bet Eugene will have another snowy winter again either this year or next. Their 30-year average is 7.1”, compared to just 4.2” for PDX.

I agree. Cold and frost doesn’t move the needle. If we had even 1-2in snow and record cold, that’s different
Yeah, that’s why one of my least favorite winter months ever was December 2009 in Seattle. Total waste of arctic cold. I would almost prefer a torch to a completely dry cold spell.

All the votes in swing states will get lost in a series of derechos and late-season hurricanes. We all agree to postpone the election until 2025. Kamala bows out and is replaced as the candidate by Beyoncé; Trump is replaced by Elon Musk. They have several rap battles planned for Spring 2025.
Just kidding! I have no idea what will happen.

Much of the country has very boring autumn weather.
As for dreams. I've had a recurring weather dream in the past that turned into a nightmare where spring came way too fast.
Yikes! That’s not a fun one.
When I had the tornado dream the other night, I posted a thread in this forum titled “What it was like being in the Seattle tornado” in the dream. I even took a video! Someone else posted a video of giant hail that fell somewhere

Got down to 3 at my house
Bummed I missed that night. As it was, at least I experienced single digits two winters in a row (it got down to 9 degrees in December 2022 in downtown Bellingham where I lived at the time).

A cherry picked one out a million story where a terrible tragedy happens, with literally no evidence these laws made any impact aside from speculation.
It's the highest sacrament of the Democrat party. The most stunning a brave thing a pregnant "PERSON" can do.
Answer me this. How come women can kill their kids and men don't have a say, but if they "choose" to let them live, men are on the hook for child support?
I don’t think there’s any way to get through to you if your wife is pro-choice (iirc you said that at some point) and you still think these things…

It's a massive stretch to say that death was due to the abortion laws. They are basically just attributing the response to that, when it reality that's just the typical response of medical providers in this country. I'm sorry, but there is literally no evidence aside from speculation that abortion restrictions played any role. What happened is obvious, the medical providers did not recognize the seriousness of the situation, had nothing to do with an abortion law. LOL
I don’t know how you can read stories like this and come away with that conclusion. I’m honestly perplexed you can’t understand. Oh well.

Yeah, even months like January 1969 and 1950 had a big N/S gradient and they obviously worked out.
For sure. I think I would take a month with a -8 departure and 20” of snow over a month with a -18 departure and 5” of snow.

With my wife recently finding out she's pregnant, SD abortion laws take on a bit more meaning for us now. Not because we are having one but because those stories you're talking about make me nervous God forbid we were to have any complications. I can't imagine hoping and praying for a baby, finally being blessed with one, have something go horribly wrong during the prenancy, and then not being able to get the care you need because doctors are afraid.
As I mentioned before, I am very much pro life but I recognize that even some pro life states have taken it too far. There simply must be exceptions. These past couple years have proven that.

Exactly…with these draconian laws, deaths like the one in this story will keep happening. There is a lot of room for compromise in between the two extremes of this issue.

I had another weather dream last night, this time it was an epic thunderstorm in Seattle. My brain is bored of Portland’s lame fall so far!

I was just commenting on that. Coldest airmass in probably 33 years here.
I happened to be in Belllingham one of the nights they had single digits that month (not the coldest night but I think it got down to 8 degrees). I saw pancake ice forming in Padden Creek’s estuary…it’s crazy how fast ice forms when it gets that cold.

Come on, Jim. Nobody loves abortion. It might be more widely acceptable and in some cases encouraged among a segment of the population but they doesn't mean they love them. In the vast, vast, vast majority of cases it is a difficult decision that a woman has to make who often times wish they didn't find themselves in that position to begin with.
I'm pro life but we can't demonize the issue. That type of belief you hold just shows we will never be able to try and reach a consensus on this issue.
Also like…I don’t know if you’ve seen some of the recent news stories about women dying in states like Texas because of their draconian abortion laws, but they are heartbreaking. To me that’s the crux of the issue. The new laws in red states go way too far, leading to pain, death and suffering that, ultimately, is anything but pro-life.

Yes. I remember looking at that area a few years ago. Incredible they can get freezing mins every month of the year in spite of being at 45 degrees latitude and only 500 feet above sea level. Even crazier when you consider it's an island.
Quite a contrast to the extreme north of New Zealand where freezes are nearly unheard of:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whangārei
Completely unlike any climate in the US. The closest would probably be somewhere in Hawaii at 5,000 feet.

I think it's occasional intrusions of cold air from Antarctica. Even New Zealand gets that in some places. Despite being a small island it still experiences some of the oddities of South America. No way it's anything to with continental influence there.
For fun, this is the most continental climate in New Zealand:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandra,_New_Zealand
It’s quite similar to Sequim with colder winter lows and less seasonality in precipitation.
