  1. Pattern change coming for the 2nd part of February as it will turn much colder and snowier for some parts of the country. The EC stands a good chance as well. February tends to be their snowiest month of the winter season. Right now, March looks quite cold and potentially snowy, which could last through the end of the month, b4 winter says good bye.
  2. Yes, I am mostly looking forward towards the sunshine this weekend as well. Tbh, I could use a break from the cold and snow. January was indeed a very active month in terms of cold and snow. Averaged AN in snowfall and not sure how that happened during a strong nino, but definitely not complaining on that part.
  3. Big warm-up coming next week. My area could potentially hit 50F. Still some large snow piles around. Great thing is that sunshine will be returning by tomorrow (ahhhh, some Vitamin D). Temps remain AB until further notice.
  4. Hopefully, the second half of February can bring in some arctic air again and a few good storms.
  5. I think for your area, there was not enough lifting, which reduced the snowfall considerably.
  6. Here in S MI, that snow came in w a vengeance. It was a moderate to heavy, wet snowfall. Beautiful scenery. Best part was looking at the radar this morning at that wall of snow pushing through. Great "Clipper."
  7. That is what I said also. They did not want to look bad, so they decided to leave it w/o a headline. Meanwhile, their forecast was still wrong. They were calling for less snow, meanwhile we got more., if not, quite a bit more.
  8. Definitely an overachiever. Snowfall was coming down heavy at times and there was some good, strong lifting going on, which helped a lot. Also, it started snowing earlier than expected. This was an all snow event w amounts ranging from 3-6" area wide . Veryyyy pleased. My snow piles are out looking good again. Too bad, no bitter cold air coming. Not complaining though, considering, this has been a very active January along w/ above normal snowfall.
  9. January nino continues!!! CAUTIOUS TRAVEL IS ADVISED FOR SNOW-COVERED ROADWAYS AND REDUCED VISIBILITIES FOR THE MORNING COMMUTE... WEATHER... * A burst of snow will continue to impact southeast Michigan through the remainder of the morning commute. * Snowfall rates approaching an inch per hour have been observed with snowfall reports of 2 to locally 3 inches. * Additional snow accumulations north of I-96 around an inch. South of I-96 additional accumulations up to 2 inches. * South winds around 10 mph with gusts to 15 mph. * Air temperature will remain steady around 32 degrees. IMPACTS... * Accumulating snow will lead to slippery roads particularly on bridges, exit ramps and overpasses. * Visibility reductions to less than one mile. There may be rapid fluctuations in visibility.
  10. Great game last nite, even though, the Lions did not make it to the superbowl. A score being 24/7 at the beginning , I would have bet that the Lions had this, but what a comeback from the 49ers...dang. Tough team, but I hear the Chiefs are even tougher. Not to worry Lions, there is always next year.. Great game though.
  11. Yes sir....looks like an impressive clipper.
  12. BN for February tempwise to begin the month, but dry, unless a storm develops outta nowhere, (2 days at 40F or slightly higher next week, then temps fall as a strong Canadian high builds in from Canada). Temps do remain BN if not way BN as we get deeper in the month. Hopefully, this month can get me to at least near average snowfall by the time we call it a wrap and we welcome spring. Even March can help provide the goods, but by mid March (or sometimes even April, which can do the trick), the mode is pretty much gone by then, until next October again and into November.
  13. Well, Detroit picked up 0.8" of slushy snow this morning making it a total of 14.6" of snowfall so far this month. Maybe we can add a bit more on Tuesday b4 we close out the month. Overall, not too shabby during a nino winter.
  14. WOW! That sounds like a wild drive being in a blizzard.
  15. @TomNot sure if I skipped any vid's or pics of yours, but did you happened to check out the mountains by ya area. They must have feet of snow up there.
  16. It is balmy out there. A lot of snow is melting, that's for sure, but it also feels good being outside and not freezing your a** off. This January thaw is very much welcomed by me. Temps are in the upper 30s to near 40F attm under hvy mist. Btw: being a nino winter, January was very active in terms of snowfall and very cold temps. Averaging above normal snowfall for the month.
  17. Looks like another couple of inches for mby coming up tomorrow nite and into Tuesday, b4 some ice starts mixes in. I wonder how how long that warm air can be delayed b4 reaching the northern burbs of Detroit. Also, not a fan of ice. Hopefully, it can stay all snow after getting a couple of inches of snow and end as a little freezing drizzle or sleet and call it a day.
  18. Arctic air still holding a good grip here w no melting. True January weather going on and what a turn around from December. I'd say that is a major pattern change. Tbh, kinda looking forward to a January Thaw coming up, but hoping it does not last too long. Also, considering this is a strong nino winter, I'd call this super stretch cold weather and snowcover a "Real Bonus."
  19. From the second event.....measured at 5"....thanks to Lake Huron.
  20. That Lake did provide the goods. At times, it was coming down really hard and stacked up in a heart beat. I never thought Lake Huron could be that friendly.... That streamer made a beat-line straight at Macomb...sweet!!!
  21. Currently at 4F under deep blue skies along w a very nice snow cover. Detroit currently has a 7" snow depth. Here Macomb, Lake Huron helped yesterday by adding nice 3-5 inch amounts. I will take pics and take a measurement too. Note: Both events equaled a 4-8" amounts. Not too shabby at all.
  22. Currently at 7F w cloudy skies. WCF at -8F.
  23. I think a good snowfall is headed for all of SMI w/ a 2 day total (Thurs & Fri) of 4-8"+ in the cards, followed by another arctic airmass over the weekend. Also, very high ratios will probably make for higher accumulations. Watch, instead of a WSW, my area as usual will be put into a WWA per Dtw Crew.
  24. This is screaming very high ratios, should it verified.
